slamminuk
I've just purchased Windows 8 and I'm going to do a fresh install. However I don't want to lose my installed mods and saves. I also used NMM to install all mods.So is it a case of just copying and backing up the whole Skyrim and saves folder. Reinstalling Steam and Skyrim, then pasting the folders over the top? What will happen with NMM? Should I do the same for these folders and also paste over the top? Will everything still be intact? Any help will be much appreciated. masterpoe
a safer method is to download your mods as WinRAR files and save themon an external drive if you really want a bullet proof way to save them. Don't get me wrong I fully utilize NMM but I also take the time to download the fileas a WinRAR archive too just in case some files get compromised I only have tolook in my external drive to reclaim the mod again. I do feel that windows 8 isn't as good as 7 for gaming UNLESS you tweak itto run in high performance mode and keep your game save's to a minimumwithin the game. NMM saves your files in a zipped folder format, and also supports various formats. When downloading a mod is complete it can be found (typically, depending on your install path) C:\Games\Nexus Mod Manager\Skyrim When you add a zipped folder (jigsaw with green plug symbol button) it copies over your zipped folder mod into that directory. EDIT: Anyways... Go into program files -> steam -> steamapps -> common -> backup the skyrim folder entirely.copy everything from NMM -> C:\Games\Nexus Mod Manager\Skyrimto copy game saves go to (typically) -> C:\Users\%username%\Documents\my games and copy the skyrim folder. now, when you get win8 setup. Install steam, copy any backed up games. They will now show up as installed, but when you do click "install" in steam it WILL detect existing files and save you A LOT of time from d/l'ing. Once skyrim and NMM are full installed paste back your other files/folders.
