aleksandernor
Hello, i'm a 22 year old guy from Norway. I've played many different RPG's but never any TES, i did see and try Morrowind slightly but i didnt have the time for it.Now i do have time in the evenings to play more rpg's so i thought i'd try out Oblivion as i comes highly appraised from a friend. I've started as a Khajit(?) assassin and just cleared that first dungeon by the water when i exit sewer. So far i've had lotsa fun sneaking and shooting guys hehe. What im wondering is; what should i focus on as a assassin with a bow?.I've heard of the guilds, like fighter guilds etc, is there a guild suited for an assassin?. And should i start the main quest right off or will it be to hard for me?. Any tips would be appreciated!. - Aleks
phforNZ
Assassin guild = Dark Brotherhood. Special entry requirements (listen to the NPCs, part of their conversations tell you how to get in :P ) Just because you are one character archetype doesn't limit you to any specific guilds. And the game scales - Main Quest now is just as difficult as later (although, imo, early = easier lol)
Cameronx1
I suggest you level up a little, and explore Cyrodill a little bit more before you begin the main quest, so there are cooler enemys with better loot when you start it. You should probably join a faction, for you, probably the 'Dark Brotherhood' is best, to join, murder an innocent person, and in due time, you will know what must be done. Dont use cheats to get gold or anything, it ruins the game Get some good mods like Deadly Reflexes, and get a body replacer, so people are nude 'neath their clothing Get ALL the DLC. its worth it( Shivering Isles, Knights of The Nine, Fighters Stronghold, Wizards Tower, Orrey, Vile Lair, Theives Den, Mehrunes Razor, Spell Tomes, Horse Armor) And learn how to mod, you don't need to learn advanced modding, but its always handy to be able to build yourself a house in the CS. The DLC's are a nice thing if you want to throw some more money at Bethesda though. Money which they've earned in my Opinion. Oblivion is a game with many things where it's pretty obvious that they could have used a bit more polishing. But all in all, if Oblivion had a 100$ Price tag it would be still worth every Penny and then some. So, the DLCs are not that good, but you should buy them anyways. Download a mod which does whatever the DLC is supposed to do, then buy and download the DLC and leave them uninstalled for all i care =) Back to the Topic: the Dark Brotherhood is for you. Thats the Assassins Guild. Although there are some missions which will get very difficult if you'll want to grab the bonus, so i'll get into the mages Guild first to be able to enchant Stuff so i'll be invisible =)

Sorry for the hopeless questions, i just get so lost easily hehe.Go pick up some Flowers! Not for your Girlfriend, although that can never hurt, but in Oblivion you'll find many Plants you can pick up, with a "Mortar and Pestle" you can make Potions. What these Potions will do is determined by the Plants you use. Plants do different things. Actually, just about every Ingredient does four different Things. These have an Order, the first being what the Ingredient will do when you eat it. Then, there are three other possible effects. You wont see most of them until you'll get better at "Alchemy", which is the Skill for that. Most Ingredients have four effects. They won't do you any good (or bad) unless you'll find something else to combine it with which has the same Effect. Most Foodstuff Ingredients have "Restore Fatigue" as their first Effect. Mix two food Ingredients together and you'll have a "restore Fatigue" Potion. But you want to have some Poison. You'll have to find a Ingredient that has some negative Effect within that four effects the Ingredient has and then find another one which has the same Effect somewhere in those four effects. You may want to have "Damage Health" as an Effect of your Potion. Pick up some Nightshade Plants. On the Top of my Head i recall the "Spiddal Stick" which can be found in the Oblivion Planes and the "Stinkhorn Cap" which is most likely to be found in the Blackwood. Hold on for a minute: This little Alchemy lesson is rather worthless, you can put some Poison on your Arrow, or with the Gamemechanics rather on the Bow on the Poison will land on your Target, even if you switched arrows after poisoning them (or rather the Bow...) but this will wear out after one single Shot. every Potion will be gone after you fired that Arrow. Which makes it rather worthless. You'd think you can just pour the Bottle over your Quiver and every Arrow will be poisoned or at least the next five Arrows that are visible in the Quiver. Alchemy for Poisoning Weapons is rather useless. Unless you'll have some Superstrong enemy and the maybe 20 more Damage you'll get out of the Poisoning will make the Difference between your life and death its not worth it.I do poison my Arrows sometimes when i found some Poison readily available in Corpses. Poisoning away every Poison you find in some Dungeons lets you carry a piece more loot out of there. Wanna have some Poisons? It would be better if you'd clean out "Fort Linchal", that has Necromancers i think and they are always nice enough to fill you up with Healing Potions and some Poisons as well. Nevertheless, Alchemy is always the Skill i master first. Its basically a money machine. You pick up Plants and even steal some Stuff, the Potions you'll make out of stolen Ingredients wont count as stolen so you can sell them. And after you reach master, you can make Potions out of a single Ingredient. Which is great, as some Plants are really useful. Low on Health in a cave? Not for long, every Cave has "Cairn Bolette" which has "restore Health" as first Effect. Alchemy *can* be useful if you'll whip up some "Paralyze" Potions. The Enemy hit by this will fall on its Ass (provided it doesn't have too much Resistance against the Paralyze Effect) and will stay down until the Effect wears off, which may take only a few seconds, but this is enough time to shoot some Arrows at it. But mostly, Alchemy is just a money machine...
