dannisderdraugr
Hello,im german so at the beginning please excuse my english which may not be "the yellow from the egg" As I said on the Topic Title:I installed Skyrim again. The last time i played Skyrim (about 1 year ago) I played the "normal" edition with the DLCs "Heratfire, Dawnguard etc." I also started to play mods which made this game much more interesting and fun than it already is.But many problems started to occur because i didnt use the special edition. Some mods crashed regularly and with hours of problem solving (of course with the help of many people on this forum and downloading many additional files and trying tips and tricks) i was able to fix some errors. But still there were some mods which just won´t run.So this time I installed Skyrim Special Edition and here we get to the question:Can I use my old save games from the "normal" Skyrim? I read some articles which said that it´s possible but just when there were no mods installed. But I have no save games without installed mods (I was dumb enough to erase many save games back then and it looks like I erased everyone were I didn´t used mods). But there is one save game were I installed only mods with additional "contents" like some items but no additional quests or big story lines with new maps or things like that. I already tried it and it worked! I can load the savegame but it says before loading: "This save uses content that no longer exists. Some items may no longer be available. continue anyway?-Cloaks.esp-HighResTexturePack01.esp-HighResTexturePack02.esp-HighResTexturePack03.esp-winterholdreborn.esp I think that those "mods" are just minor additions, so maybe i can use this save game without worrying that my game will crash later? But I am no expert so I hope you guys can give me some awnsers. As I said i just downloaded skyrim today after a long time and there are many things i have to read again in order to play some mods (downloading mod organizer, how it works and stuff like that).I hope this can work because my charakter is lv. 62 and i already waisted many hours in collecting rare stuff and decorating my homes etc. and if I have to start over again that would be... Not so nice. Sorry for the long text.Live long and prosper^^ Edited October 15, 2022 by dannisderdraugr
Algabar
When SE was new, I also used some old savegames from LE - mainly for testing purposes. Except for some rather minor issues (e.g. one of my characters had totally different eyes), everything seemed to work. The missing mods you mentioned should probably be ok. The high res packs were just texture replacers. If I remember right, they were packed in .bsa archives. The purpose of the .esp files was mainly to activate these archives with the textures. Shouldn't be a problem. Not so sure about that winterhold mod. It depends on what it does. If it only modifies buildings and such, this should also be fine. If it contains NPCs, quests or scripts, you might have issues. I'd do some testing in the winterhold area. If everything looks okay and you don't crash, it's probably fine. Take all this with a grain of salt though: Using save games from LE CAN lead to problems. So, no one can guarantee, that everything will be fine... Gorgopis
We (two of us at this address) also used saved games from LE in SE with success, and all of our completed quests and levels transferred successfully. We think we recall when we did that years ago, SE "folded in" those high-resolution textures as one of its "already-upgraded" improvements, so those original LE texture packs became obsolete? We manage our mods with Vortex, and we used a version of the Winterhold Reborn mod, once on LE and then the SE-specific one later on SE. We simply downloaded the SE version, if we recall correctly, installed it, started up one of our existing saves, and waited in-game about a minute without doing anything, then made a save, to "tell" SE we're playing with a "new" mod, and it seemed to work. We're on PC. Good luck!
