Creating transparent Walls

Is it possible to Modify Textures to make a part of a wall see-through? I wanted to add windows that can look out and see the street but I cannot seem to find any information on it. Can anybody help me on this?

i think that in blender where you select your texture map have it "map to" COL and ALPHA, then the texture itself should control the transparency. or at least thats how i did it when i was making bottles. alternately, if the glass is its own object, you can set turn the entire alpha down in the material properties, but then you cant have dirt etc that isnt see through.
