Recharging enchanted items question

The gems display the soul contained inside them on the inventory screen, but not on the recharge screen. Say you have multiple greater gems with various souls inside, if one gem fills it up 20 % of the way and another gem adds what seems to be another 20% to it, how do i Know I didnt use a gem that added 40% the second time?

I can not quite phrase it exactly how it troubles me, but i am thinking maybe its when its towards being filled up, how can I determine which capacity of gem is being used, as not to waste "fuller gems" rather than the desired used of 2 "lesser gems" again, they only give you the name of waht gem, not the soul inside.

Can anyone elaborate on how this works?

If you buy the gems from the shops you'll know what size the soul is because it's always the same as the size gem. Sorry if that doesn't answer your question, but it's an alternative. There's also a mod called Enchanting Awakened which I'm pretty sure fixes it so you can only fill gems with the same size soul.

I understand that the list shows you what size soul is in them. I am talking about while actually trying to recharge t he item, it does not indicate what soul is in the gem, rather only how much space will be filled by the gem. so if you have an item half way charged, how can i be sure my next gem that fills it up, is only the half charge needed, and not an excessive entire charge spent.

When you are in the inventory screen and filling up a magical weapon, or staff there should be a status bar that appears under the weapon that corresponds to the gem you are currently selecting. It should change for each gem you select, so you can estimate how much you are going to need. It's not an exact science, but the larger the soul gem (with soul) the larger the charge.

You should also get the mod...

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/5312/? <-- Acquisitive Soul Gems

This makes sure the right size soul is captured in the appropriate size gem. Be sure to update the USKP (Unofficial Skyrim Patch) as well since ASG was also updated to accommodate it.

When you press T to recharge and hover over your soul gems, you will see the depleted item's charge bar alter to show how much the currently selected soul gem would charge it if used.

There is no mod yet to only take enough of a soul to fill the weapon "without spilling any". It might be handy to top up the weapon and downgrade the soul (minus a little wastage).

The inventory shows you what soul is in the gem. is there a way to make the recharge bar also specify which soul is in the gem? rather than eyeing it by the charge bar indication. like im trying to say... if you fill your bar up 75% you might be filling it whole with a 20% just enough or another 75% gem. I do a lot of soul steal on the go because of my Fiery Souls axe, so it gets really thrown around.

Summary: As the inventory menu tells you the gem and what size soul, can the recharge list show you the slider bar, the Soul gem name, and soul inside the soul gem?

ASG is a darn good mod. In addition to stopping you from having to either stock a bunch of every size soul gem or constantly reset underfilled ones It makes Azura's Star incredibly useful. ASG wisely allows the Star to intercept undersized souls once all gems of that type are filled, so if all your Lessers are filled and you trap another Azura's will get it. That's ridiculously convenient.
