taco510
Hey guys, I just got skyrim a few days ago and lets just say that I haven't slept in a couple of days lol. I conciously decided to not play any difficutly but legendary lol. So I'm here now with a few questions. How come people are saying this games combat system is faceroll easy or just too easy to really enjoy? I see all these overhaul and combat mods saying that it needs to be harder and I'm on the pessimistic side thinking i'm the worst player ever. Ever ever. I think the combat is fine, but I'm definitely far from a 200+ hr veteran. This playthrough I decided to go dagger assassin/thief. I have to say, running into a pack of wolves made me feel like a child lost in the woods. I mean each hit was probably taking 1-5% even with power hits lol. I am currently level 35 ish and unfortunately reached it by pockpocketing and sneaking around. The only reason i ever survived is that I had to google how to get a companion =/. Not proud of that moment. That being said my one handed ability is easily trained probably due to the fact that I still do 1-5% dmg per hit lol. A well armored opponent can take an entire 3 hit full power dual dagger attack at barely reach 50%. Then I have to smack them 50 more times while I try to get them to aggro my companion. Too many times has my companion died trying to tank a stronger opponent. Don't get me started on dragons... Need 10 npc's and 20 hard minutes lolol. I'm gonna stop the QQ lol. Either way, I can see the need to improve weapons/armors/ui/perks/spells for better synergy and maybe better scaling, with a few well needed nerfs (sneak op and i've heard alc is op?) but difficulty? Jeez. I can't see it.
chanchan05
Its because you're new to Skyrim, and because of the skills your toon got. What other games have you played? In games like WoW for example, You just stand and attack, and enemies miss hitting your or damage is low. In Skyrim, you actually have to kite/run/manually evade to get those misses. You actually do have to raise your shield to block an attack (right mouse button). I'm playing on Legendary too, with Mods to make the game more difficult like bigger packs of wolves (I now see packs of 10 or more, not the usual 3-5), packs of Saber Cats (usually pairs or threes). They're smarter too, in that they actually work together now in some fashion. I also have a mod that makes Dragons twice as powerful and smarter just to make it more difficult. They were just too easy for me before. The problem I think with your character is that you said you reached level 35 from pickpocket and sneak. That said, you're a good thief, but a poor combatant. You probably have Adept level at Sneak and Pickpocket (40-60ish) but much lower than that on one hand, archery and other warrior related skills. You'll have to level those up to be able to fight properly. Not all the opponents scale with your. For example, you could be level 35 but have just what, 25 in one hand, the mostly sneak and pickpocket. How are you supposed to fight a level 35 warrior whose skills all went to armor and two hand? By playing smart and not getting hit. Sneak in, give a hit, then run away to not get hit. Then run back in when he tries to recover. Remember the start of the game when you had to fight wolves on the way to Riverwood? You can take them no problem then. But now the game's left you behind, You decided to level non-combat skills, so you are basically a non-combatant.

Lots of arrows to draw them to places I'd like them to be. I always scout around for usable terrain. My one handed ability is 60ish, pickpocketing was past legendary, my sneak just reached 55-60 as well. I've gotten dragons to about 50% before i made a mistake and got 1 hit by ice/fire blasts. I take very light offense to say i'm one to stand still and take a hit lol. I've let my companions die because i have to draw out fights from 10-20 minutes of kiting. It's become drastically easier since I got into the dark brotherhood and do the 30x sneak damage (needs nerf imo), but you are correct in saying that I pretty much had a non combatant character. I believe I did OKAY for going almost pure dual daggers, but I do get facerolled by an npc or 10. I focused using my cash for light armor trainings and tryng to find/enhance daggers. For one handed ability, I got my points into damage and dual attack speed so far. Oh and the 25% less stanima cost for power attacks perk. Anything other than those skills are pretty much useless. The only other skill to get is dual savagery for crits and i'm not of level yet. Unless bladesmen perk counts daggers. the rest I'm pouring into lightarmor and sneak unfortunately its my crafting that has suffered the most. I am playing major catch up and mass building hide and iron items whenever i can lol. I also neglected enchanting as a whole because the game never explained to me how to trap souls, but I figured it out all too recently. chanchan05
Oh, daggers. Yeah that's tough if you're using that as your primary weapon. Wait, pickpocketing went past legendary that early? LOL. You're a theif! So you're basically an assassin type character? Here's a trick. Level up your Illusion. Get Muffle and Invisibility. The Calm line of spells also work well. If an opponent is hitting you hard, use calm on him, and he'll...calm down, and stop attacking and walk away. Then you can sneak backstab him again. Invisibility works wonders for assassin type characters. Get muffled and invisible then sneak to your assassination target. Charge Invisibility, BUT DO NOT CAST. Power attack sneak kill. With Assassin's Blade and Mehrunes Razor this would be instakill. As soon as the target is dead, cast invisibility. Works well even with a mob. They'll turn around just in time to see you vanish. Back away a bit since physical contact or looting breaks your invisibility. Pick your next target then rinse and repeat until the room is clear. Of course you should not have a companion when you do this.
bben46
Your character is a thief. Not a warrior. So don't expect him to be able to deal out damage - or take it like a warrior. He doesn't do well in heavy armor, it just slows him down - and he needs all the speed he can get to run away from trouble. This is not cowardice, but common sense. Standing up to even a poor warrior such as a bandit will lead to a short lifespan. Unless used for backstabbing, daggers just don't do much damage when compared to a sword or axe. Cultivate special friends, and be prepared to lose them and find a new one often. Learn to use potions and spells to enhance your natural abilities of backstabbing, sneak, hiding and running away. Work on your archery as many enemies don't have a ranged weapon to retaliate. Avoid those that do. Lure more powerful enemies into a town where the guards will help. Avoid dragons as much as you can. they will just have you for lunch until you find a shout, spell or special weapon to even the odds. As for giants, they will knock you into the next county with one hit. But, if you leave them alone they usually won't bother with you.Save a lot. smjn
Yeah, what ben said, definitely avoid giants. They see Skyrim as a golf course, and anything that it sees as aggressive as a golf ball. Unless you have an ungodly amount of health and defense, steer clear.
MidevalGuy
Everybody has given sound advice given your current build. I just wanted to comment a lot of the "elite" players who brag about the game being easy are often the ones who exploit the Hell out of the game (enchanting/crafting loop) a good percentage of the time. So, of course, the game is a cake walk at any level because they broke the game's difficulty, more or less. This doesn't include everybody who thinks the game is too easy once you've played it for hundreds of hours... Myself included... But always be aware of who is saying the game is a cake walk and WHY (like I wrote, a lot of times it's to brag to the e-masses to increase e-penis cred & the fact they've never really played the game the way it was meant to be played, flawed as it is). Lord Garon
Hey guys, I just got skyrim a few days ago and lets just say that I haven't slept in a couple of days lol. I conciously decided to not play any difficutly but legendary lol. So I'm here now with a few questions. ... I've got to say that Legendary difficulty was not in the original Skyrim; it showed up AFTER many players already had a lot of Skyrim experience. I'm actually impressed that you have gotten as far as you have, and still like the game. Legendary is meant to be hard for even experienced Skyrim players. Learning the game's subtle points is most of the fun and I don't want to spoil any of that for you, so I'll just say that Skyrim was not meant to seem "fair" on Legendary difficulty. Legendary "only" affects combat damage; "they" do more, you do less. You're probably "behind the curve" as far as combat skill is concerned, but "pickpocketing and sneaking around" is EXACTLY what a thief does. You know what the problem is and you're working on it. Many players would have given up by now. Keep going, I say. I'd actually like to hear more of your experiences as a new player on Legendary. I knew legendary was gonna be rough, but not 'run away from most every dragon and reload boss fights a few times' rough. I'll look into locating the spells, I was too busy trying to clear my quest screen lol. I don't think its possible!!! Your character is a thief. Not a warrior. Actually before i entered the dark brotherhood I snuck up Valley of Redoubt and stole the Ethereal Voice. Snuck all the up and past the boss fight. They auto detect you after you take the shout so i sprinted and jumped off the mountain's waterfall. Was pretty epic lol. <3 fast travel. It took me like 10+ levels to figure out it even existed... lol. Yeah I don't use my bow for damage as much as i should. I tend to use it only to draw enemies where i want them or to kite them a little, but never really tried for extensive damage. Will try. I play on pc so I can quick save before I do ANYTHING. I usually save after an event. Like I finally killed 6 guards within a small area or i leveled up something or before i pickpocket something with a very very small chance to pickpocket. Yeah, what ben said, definitely avoid giants. They see Skyrim as a golf course, and anything that it sees as aggressive as a golf ball. Unless you have an ungodly amount of health and defense, steer clear. ROFL. I met one in the beginning from Riverwood to WHiterun. I snuck past it only cause i remember an NPC telling me that i shouldnt fight them lol. Hey guys, I just got skyrim a few days ago and lets just say that I haven't slept in a couple of days lol. If I'm not on my toes I'm dead. I get a decent cash flow from pickpocketing haha. All that jewelry has me emptying the theives guild's Tonilia (whom i call Teronga Leela because I was too tired to read her name properly) of her 100 gold almost every day lol. 1k a day without having to do jobs... Yeah i probably steal too much LOL. All in all a mod i would like without completely breaking the game, to be able to put out candles for extra sneakiness. Mix in that with my night eye kaijit and i'm having a good time lol. It'd be nice to have npc's react to darkness realistically too. Also for misdirection to TRULY disarm an opponent.
