toma1600
Hey guys I'm in a bit of a problem. I'm quite new to modding but have just about done everything right (I think) before I needed OBSE to run a certain mod I wanted. Everything was working fine, that is, no frequent crashing untill I tried OBSE. Basically the game runs fine for a while (20-35 mins) untill it just closes down to desktop, or crashes. This happens when I load a new area. I have put all 6 files it asks into the Oblivion directory, including the loader and run it from that. I have OBSE version '16' and running it with a GOTY copy with patch 1.2.0.416. My specs are: Windows XP SP2ATI 4870X2Quad Q6600 @ 2.82GB RAM1000w PSU500GB HD By simply Googling it said I should check the OBSE 'log file' which should be within the directory. I don't have those. Or check the 'Plugin folder' within the data folder but these are not there, all I did was do what the OBSE readme said and put the said files into directory. Could this be it? Also, by typing the 'GetOBSEverion' into the console no error messages come up. I'm only running the Natural Leveling mod which I really like, and want to keep it but like I said ever since I put OBSE near Oblivion it has been causing me some crashing problems. The mod also works fine like it should, so I pressume I installed that correctly along with OBMM. Thanks so much.
dezdimona
are you launching the game useing OBSE. You have to launch the game with obse for oblivion to function properly.Create a OBSE desk top icon and launch from that
bben46
It is rare for OBSE to actually cause a crash, But common for a mod that requires OBSE to crash. So don't automatically blame OBSE. A load order list would be helpful here. As well as where and how the crash occurs. Is it a particular new area? or any new area after a specific time? Also, have you removed any mods recently? dezdimona
General Load-Order GuidelinesHere are the guidelines that I adhere to, personally. ~ Unofficial Oblivon Patch should always be first on the list. The fixes are great, but most aren't essential, so if a mod overwrites them its not a big deal, and the fixes have the potential for screwing up other mods if loaded later. ~ Offical Content (DLC's) should be loaded last, until you complete all quests associated with them (that includes buying all furniture for the houses and whatnot). Once they're complete, they can be safely moved up in the list. This is especially important for Knights of the Nine, which will have some fairly major problems unless loaded last (unless you get the UOP for KotN) ~ Major overhaul mods (OOO, Frans, MMM) should be loaded near the end. That gives you the most complete experience with any of those particular mods. It also lets you carefully choose which other mods to load afterwards... only move mods that you know will conflict and that you want the changes from. For example, I have Improved Soul Gems below OOO because I know that OOO changes the icons of some of the SG's, and ISG needs to be below to show through. Some people will recommend putting larger mods first, but personally I disagree. There are a number of mods out there that make minor tweaks, and loading after a large mod will end up completely overwriting a chunk from one of the bigger mods because of the way conflicts work in Oblivion (even one minor change will take precedence over the entire record... for example, simply tweaking the speed of a weapon can cause every stat of that weapon to be retained to vanilla levels if loaded later). So basically, it stacks up like this... Oblivion.esmUnofficial Oblivion Patch<Minor Mods / DLC's (Post-Completion)><Major Overhaul Mod/Mods><Mods that specifically conflict with overhauls and need to take precedence><DLC's (Pre-Completion)> Expanded Load-Order Guidelinesby dev_akm I would extend this to include: Oblivion.esmUnofficial Oblivion Patch<Weather/Environment/Sound Mods><Minor Mods/New Items/Houses/DLC's (Post-Completion)><Major Overhaul Mods><Mods that specifically conflict with overhauls and need to take precedence><DLC's (Pre-Completion)><Quests><Compatibility Patches/UOMP/Merged Leveled Lists> And a special-case warning for Knights.esp (Knights of the Nine) -- you may not be able to move it earlier than some other mods (some people have had problems after moving it before OOO, for example). That's basically the structure I use and I have 140+ mods working well together. Another way of describing this (posted by DMan77):....Oblivionunoffical patchDeeper realism mods that add sights and soundsadded content like weapons/itemsgameplay changes, like 'must eat and sleep'The OOO typethe 'new begining' type mod................................................................................................... S2RA
Ok heres my load order: Quest Award Leveller - Knights of the Nine.espQuest Award Leveller.esp Thats the left hand side of OBMM. I uninstalled Kobu's Leveling before installing OBSE. It never crashes in Dungeons, Forts, Houses etc but sometimes either leaving them or when out in the wilderness (Loading a new area). Again not everytime, but when it does crash/close, it usually because it's loading a new area. Switch these 2 The top one is probably calling for the one below it Since it directly modifies it it should load after It may not solve your problem but it could be as simple as that. toma1600
Thankyou for that it's really helpful. I'll change the load order now, and let you know if it helps. By the way I have two 'esm' files, one being Oblivion.esm and Armamentarium.esm, do these files matter? As in could I have the Armamentarium.esm file in conjuction with the list you provided. I read that they are master files or something? Of course I'll keep the Oblivion.esm loaded first, just wondering about the Armamentarium mod... EDIT: Thanks S2RA that would make sense I'll be sure to do that too thankyou.
bben46
Having more esm files is common. These are master files that the esp files use, more than one esp can access a single esm so its handy to use them. I have seen as many as a dozen esm files in one load order. However, the Oblivion.esm should always be the top one. As this only happens out doors, I would look at the mods that only affect things out doors - the weather, harvest flora, illumination within. The illumination within has several versions, be sure you are using one of the more up to date ones.
toma1600
With the new load order it seems to run much more smoothly, thanks for all the replies :) Does your oblivion game not take up the full screen? Sometimes when clicking around the menu it minimizes.
KuNaan
To those that can help me, I have a similar problem (except with save crashing) and I think OBSE is the culprit. Recently I had to reinstall the game, and forgot to reinstall OBSE. The game ran smoothly (except for a few mods which wouldn't work), and would save whenever I pleased. I reinstalled OBSE, and now it crashes once more whenever I save. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, KuNaan PS: My load order, if it helps. If a mod needs to be deleted to let the game run smoothly (or added), please let me know.
