Discussion of what might/could have made Fallout3 'da bestest'

apostolate

Recommended Posts

1) leaning against and out of cover (gears of war esque), crawling (prone), ladders climbing (dream of mine... builing rapelling!) etc.

2) More intelligent AI in combat (more different enemies/races, SO SO TIRED of rad scorpions!), better behavior when attempting to identify sneaking player etc.

3) dual wield pistols/smgs, etc. (more CC animations).

4) Better destruction of environment, dead bodies.

5) Better story character dev. for MQ, I was always a Big fan of RPGS like baldur's gate 2 (hear hear black isle (fo1/2)) where there were more characters you could get involved with.

6) multiplayer in some form! (wishful or maybe even misguided thinking). I'm not sure what form multiplayer would take, but it could be 'non modded' coop or pve in simple forms.

edit: 7) I forgot, I would also like them to clean up structures etc. as sometimes I would try to climb things without any jump mods etc. and I'd just pass through objects etc. and fall to my death : O.

I already really like fo3, and with the brilliant mods on here I can't wait to restart, and really explore it all, but these are some things that would really put the icing on the cake, and most of them really wouldn't be that hard to implement in the future.

Thoughts anyone?

I don't care for threads like this because it generally boils down to incredibly unrealistic expectations and pointless grandeur.

e.g. 'I wish it had giant robots with laser beams that shot chocolate through my screen and into my fat, bloating belly like a fountain of pure diabetes.'

But in the realms of realistic expectations, I suppose a less 'Black or White' moral system. More situations like those encountered in Tenpenny Tower

as when you negotiate the ghouls to move in, and everything is peaceful until Roy has everyone killed. Makes you 'think' about what REAL morally correct decisions are made of. They're not always made of self-sacrifice and pink fluff. Sometimes you need to consider the scheme of things

.

I really don't think destroyable environments, and a few more actor positions/animations are unrealistic... These things are in a lot of other games, and destroyable objects are slowly being modded in by someone I think.

The last two are obviously just my wishes... I mean look at the title "da bestest" not all of it is serious, but how hard is it to add in that sort of cover usage... I mean why doesn't every FPS have it by now : (

I wasn't referring directly to your wishes, I was just making a point that this thread will eventually "boil down to" unrealistic expectations, given time.

Like having a Chairman Changbot, for instance. Now that I think about it, it would be quite awesome to have one fight Liberty Prime...

I agree with you on the B&W morality system, some more convoluted choices or even having to make some choices while being more in the dark could be good for game play.

As far as the cover system goes, if you have modded a map and set up a navmesh you could see the cover system implemented into the engine. I suppose this could be easily modded into one of those "press up against the wall and hold X to take cover" options, but for me that really takes me out of the game when I'm playing in first person. What I would change is to lower the accuracy of npcs especially super mutants with miniguns (I run on a lower spec pc and so sometimes I get sniped before I can even see the mutant hitting me over and over with a spray of bullets).
