SchwettyBalzac
I've used Vortex before, but wasn't playing Fallout 4 for awhile so I uninstalled it. Got the urge to play it again about a year ago and reinstalled the game and Vortex. When going to the games tab I see Fallout 4 there as before, and a button on the thumbnail that says "Activate". I click the button, and then am presented with a loading screen which states "Switching to Profile: Default" and then am stuck there. I can minimize/close the program with no issue, but the loading screen never ends. Back then I tried installing and reinstalling Vortex several times, as well as running as administrator and not running as administrator. I scoured forums for answers and found only one post which was unresolved. Fast forward to today, and I got bit by the urge to play Fallout 4 again so I tried again. Same problem, still no solutions to be found. Are me and the guy in the other post the only ones who have had this issue? Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Guest deleted34304850
if you can minimize/close the program then its not "frozen", it's probably working in the background - did you monitor what it's doing with task manager or similar? from what you've described it seems a lack of patience on behalf of the user rather than a system/program problem has contributed to your issues. there's not a lot of actually useful information there, so here's what i'd do based on what you've shared; i'm assuming here that you've got mods installed via vortex, but as you can't use vortex you can't purge them. 1. uninstall vortex using something like revo uninstaller to clean up any assets in other directories such as your appdata folder. also go into your fallout4 game directory and delete the data folder - this will delete all mods that you had installed previously. this gives you a clean slate in terms of vortex and fallout 4 - if you've got other games managed by vortex then you'll need to deal with these in a similar way, but for now, this is just about fallout4 and vortex. 2. have steam verify your game files for fallout 4, let it replace what it needs to. this will ensure your fallout4 is up to date. start fallout 4 - does it start? can you do the opening pre-war quests? if so then your fallout4 is good, you can alt F4 now. 3. pull down the latest vortex and install it.4. start vortex, does it start cleanly? 5. scan for games set up fallout 4 - make sure your mod staging folder is set correctly. Do NOT run Vortex as administrator - just don't. When the installer runs, that runs as administrator as it needs to - Vortex, once installed, doesn't. SchwettyBalzac
Alrighty, thanks for the tips. I'll try them out. For context, I left the program running for two hours while I went out, and when I came back it was still on the loading screen.
Guest deleted34304850
without evidence, the best i can assume is that your repeated removal/install - run as admin, run as normal have caused some sort of issue that is causing the issues. but - i emphasize, no evidence, just guesswork and i hate guessing.a completely clean slate may resolve your issue - its very important you use something like revo uninstaller to clean everything up - as vortex will leave a lot of crap behind if you uninstall it using windows built-in uninstaller which is (imho) really sloppy.try that - see if it helps.if you get the same issue then send diagnostics into the devs via the built-in feedback facility.
