niston Posted November 19, 2022 Share Posted November 19, 2022 Working on the Cliff's Edge Hotel, I've reached 17k drawcalls and 22 million polygons - just for the structure alone. So I decided to try my hand at regenerating precomb/previs.First I redid precomb for the hotel area without previs and flagged a large number of cells around the area as no previs.That plugin works well: Zero flicker, acceptable framerate. Then I thought, let's do full precomb/previs, in a new plugin.After several retries, I've regenerated a whooping 9x9 cell area around the hotel, worth 370MB of precomb/previs data.The results are abysmal: One step outside the hotel area into a directly adjacent cell, it is previs flicker ultra mega plus plus galore. I do this... a) do precombined geometry for CURRENT cell ...All edited cells one by one and then save... b) precombined visibility again for current cell and do all cells and save.... I also make a little map on a paper and list the cells i need to do and simply check each cell done so i dont get confused and skip any...(especially on big 15-20 cell locations ) Imagine for my latest mod at nakano that was 18 cells ...The generated data was around 35Mb Also note: several months ago when i did a mod at Mystic Pines... Cells that i had checked as NO Previs caused issues to the workshop (kept throwing me out of the workshop when crossing cells ) Edit:..In your case before attempting to do fresh data make sure to EMPTY the precombined and vis folders so youre sure that when testing you only have the latest data in there... It would generate two new UVD tomes.Then I tried loaded area: 5x5, 7x7 and finally 9x9. Yes also, I cleared both folders between attempts. It seems hopeless. It just does not work. I mean I even have trees near visitor's center flickering in and out, where I made literally zero edits. Maybe I'll try regenerate world for the lulz. But I don't think it will improve the situation. The Precombs/NoPrevis patch works fine however. I suspect it will also be much more compatible with mods that edit NPVC or NPHQ or even the camping grounds.Sites are pretty much on top of each other there.
