McSnovers
So I recently bought assembled a brand new gaming computer. The thing I wanted most was the ability to play Fallout 3, my favorite console game, except with mods. I followed the tutorial found here with varied success after some trial and error. However, I didn't use FOMM and opted for NMM. I attempted to install NMC Maximum Textures, FWE, MMM, Fellout, DarnUI, and WMK. I also installed the mandatory things like fose, 4gb patch, Archive Invalidator Invalidated, BOSS, etc. Some rough specs on my rig are quad core processor (Yes I limited it to two and even tried 1 core, but at that point it defeats the purpose of playing the game due to lag), the Radeon R9 280x OC edition which sports 3GB of VRAM, and I have 8 GB RAM. I have the game running on a SSD which is also my boot drive running Windows 8 64bit. Let me know if I need more specific details. Firstly, I had a difficult time getting it to run stable in the first place. After using FO3Edit, I discovered that MMM was causing problems so either it was the wrong version (it was the FOMM version) or I installed it wrong. Nevertheless I was weary of trying to make it work so I removed it entirely. Then it started working no problem as long as I launched it from the desktop shortcut created by fose. Then I was finally playing! However this victory was short-lived as I crashed shortly after entering a building. I did not experience problems in Vault 101 because I used alternate start. Upon entering a small building, the floor texture didn't load and it crashed in a few moments. Since then I have been playing by saving every 2 minutes and loading after I crash. I refuse to do this any longer, I want a stable, immersive experience. So I tried limiting it to two cores to no avail. Didn't help at all. Must not be the root of the problem. So, my question for you guys is 1) Is it possible to have a game with minimal or no crashes? 2) When I was troubleshooting initially I tried clearing everything and starting fresh so I may have used BOSS or the 4GB patch more than once. Not sure if this important. 3) What is wrong with MMM? I would live to have it. Thanks for reading, this has been a life-long dream (hyperbole? perhaps :P) of mine to play my favorite game from PS3 on my super awesome gaming machine and any help would be greatly appreciated. I assure you that I have tried almost everything otherwise I would not pester you with the same old questions you always get.
LennyHayes7
A good way to start would be to GRADUALLY increase the amount of mods you have. My Laptop is only i5 @ 2.30 Ghz and it runs Fallout 3 on ULTRA with no lag. Also. Fallout 3 has issues with new computers where it only needs two cores. Not 4. If this is one issue and it crashes your fallout regularly... search "Fallout 3, Crash Fix code"
