Oh, you must check RTS out is it extremely fun and sometimes it's hard to believe you're playing F03. But I suggest making a clean save before you install it, because it is a bit finicky. I think you will need to hire some companions for RTS, they represent your workforce and even the simplest structures require you to have them. The more companions you have the more advanced blueprints become available. You actually need 3 companions just to build a House, additionally you can't build a House without a Lumberjack, which is just a companion you assign to cut down trees.

The fort structure I have build there isn't for living, it's for defense against the "Village attacks" which is a feature of RTS. I also plan on using MMM's Zombie apocalypse feature when it is built, which spawns a tonnes of enemies quite frequently, so in essence it will resemble tower defense game play. But that is of course entirely optional.

That ugly green fella is actually a Super Mutant Behemoth, though scaled down in physical size, its among the many new mutants added by MMM (Martigen's Mutant Mod) - I was amazed at how much HP he had though, I would say more than the Behemoth you fight at GNR. And they are rare but they have nice loot hehe.

I am not aware of being able to control Deathclaws, I never have advanced that far in the quest line. But it seems you can put mind-control helmets on them using Animal Whisperer mod, though not a feature I plan on using. I do however like the idea of having a pack of rabid Molerats do your bidding or taming a Yau gui.

Bessy is your main interaction with RTS she has tips on how the mod works and inventory items such as blueprints. She can also carry stuff. But when you find a location you want to make a village/homestead talk to Bessy and activate your settlement, this is your villages fast travel beacon.

The companions are a bit glitchy, but they should have a list of commands to follow or rest. If it gets buggy, target them and press "," and it will give you more options including debugging. You can give them armor and weapons and they will fight, but they don't seem to follow you very well.

Oh yeah, I should also mention you can buy RTS building materials from all of the wandering merchants. I would buy about 300 units of each material to start with. Gathering materials (especially scrap) is so very slow, I just found it better to buy them.

gulp. oh-kaaayyy. So that young lady is my guide and mentor hey. I had better not be rude to her. She vaguely reminds me of a girl you meet in New Vegas, but I do not suppose they are related.

I shan't do any more tonight as have a problem with my music files on t'other computer. I can't save any changes - lots of them have missing lyrics or the lyrics displayed ( I use MusicBee) are incorrect, so I edit them or fetch them off the web. While the song is playing I check the lyrics are accurate and if not I edit them. Well, tonight it is telling me I can't save them and to make sure the file is not protected. Don't understand that so have to go on the MB forum to see what they think. Gotta have me Gotye, Alison Krause or Pink Floyd right ain't I! I use a KVM switch between the games machine and the older 'general' machine, so can easily switch between the two.

Not sure I much like this idea of companions - the odd faithful dog I can manage, and a cow or two, even a helpful super mutant, but PEOPLE - they are a pain and I prefer to do without them. Still, will give it a go.

Umm ... lol. No, Bessy is your guide *the Cow*

They are not companions in the traditional sense. I myself hate using companions because they get in the way and they make combat too easy. You only need to have them under your control, it doesn't mean you have to take them with you wherever you go.

I have 6 companions, which are just Wastelanders that are spawned in the wastes by the mod and the game itself. I have one Miner, one Lumberjack and 4 companions that are there as the requirement for your building workforce. They never even leave my Village. Just hire them and tell them to "Rest" and they will stay in that sandbox state indefinitely.

So really they are not companions you actually travel with, or in any practical sense used like that unless of course you want that.

I have no idea about the music stuff, all that went wooshing right over my head, :O

oh, silly ol me - Bessie is the cow! Oh, that OK; I get on much better with animals  Righty-ho, I shall have to do a wander about next time I am in there to see if I can find a suitable place for a homestead. Will I still be able to go take pot-shots at raiders, and scavenge and stuff? I only have about 300 bottle caps to my name at present, and no food, so I gotta do a bit of gathering to keep body and soul together.

S'ok, didn't expect you to help with de music, but music is important to me so I gotta spend time fixing it and get it right. Have posted on the MusicBee forum now. They will sort me out I am sure.

ps night-night now, snore time

You can do whatever tickles your fancy. RTS doesn't stop you from carrying on with your normal agenda. The whole point of the mod is to make a safe, self-sufficient place where poor wandering souls can make a new, and hopefully propser. The other main aspect is to unleash your creativity which also lends itself to role play value, as you can pretend you're the founder of a great town who has provided a safe-haven for people like yourself.

If you want to take it a step further, you can also start producing weapons, armor and food and sell them on the market, which is not a terrible idea since the materials cost so damn much. I don't know if you've noticed but FWE traders are super stingey by default. I took it one step further and crippled my monetary gain even further by never putting points into Barter, which I find makes the game so much better, after all it's hard to appreciate something when there's an abundance of it.

Enjoy your kip.

I am hatching plans to find a nice gulch or crevice which I can place a big roof on, and then a wide semi-circle stone defense with some sort of guardable entrance way ot front, so me settlers can come and go. Would that work do you think? All in my head at present....

aah, sorted me music. No-one had an answer on Music Bee or Windows Seven forums, so I checked permissions and stuff, then reset all folders. Seems ok now. Yay. Listening to Paul Simons 'Call me Al' as I write. Luvley, oh....closely followed by a classical piece, more luvley.

hee, no, that 'thing' attacking me in my OWN HOME made me feel very insecure - I don't plan for that to happen again. Virtual scare it may have been, but it still made me jump, and I'm only lickle...

I don't know how you even play this game with so little bloodlust. I can't seem to get enough of the head-popping, dismemberment and utter carnage, and I'm a really passive person by nature. I guess this is where my imagination takes me in such games.

I feel like every mutant I purge from the wastes may save a life or two, so it gives great meaning to go hunting for muties, it's not just a senseless slaughter. That and I get to sell their weapons and body parts.

And I can also tell you I am having an absolute blast with MMM, soooo many mutants and raiders, they spawn now in the 20's and sometimes I encounter massive groups of mutants fighting each other alike and huge super mutant warbands that like to hang out with other grotesque abominations.

I can say it now, Fallout 3 - best game ever made!
