pawzseven
amazing how different we humans can be! I am completely the opposite to you. What I REALLY want to do is make the world a better place, and I find the wasteland so depressing I have to have mods that green it up a bit, add a few flowers and leafy trees to take away some of the deadness. I also feel that although on top we know it is just a game with no real threat to our safety, inside our subconcious ( or whatever it is called) DOESN'T know it isn't real, so the tensions of creeping around in a dark house waiting for something nasty to pop out is real to the emotions. That is the way it is for me anyway. I notice too that in space games, where I COULD destroy innocent trading ships, I have a sort of moral finger wagging at me because I know it would be wrong, and I would feel I had done a bad thing, so I dont, even though I also know it is JUST a game. I like scavenging though, and that is why I creep into hostile areas and go on quests, not because I want to kill super mutants - though I do find it easier to kill those squidgy things that spit at you - Centaurs is it? Not doing too well with RTS. Can't seem to put objects down, like mattress and tent and fire. Press C, nothing happens. I am also wondering what I get out of it as being responsible for a load of other folk isn't really my scene. Prefer going it alone. Nor do I want the irksomeness of having to find traders and buy stuff to build. At present I have left the cow and the maiden in a temp settlement and gone off a-wandering, and ended up at BigTown, but am exhausted and need to rest, but no free beds, so I will have to go back home - but now that I am here ( in Big Town) I feel moraly obliged to see the mutants off and go and rescue their friends again, though I have already done it at least twice before, so am wondering just how much mileage I can get out of F3. I need quests I haven't done before - there must be some.
surg23
Well at this point it's probably safe to say RTS is not for you. It is THE most technical mod I have ever seen and will require a lot of effort on your part to understand and enjoy. You also seem to have little spare time, so I can understand why its not for you. Just didn't want you missing out on a possibly pleasant experience. Sounds to me like F03 doesn't have much left to offer you. Hard to enjoy a game if you only like a few aspects of it. Probably explains why I get so much from the game, I love all aspects of it, And it is for much the same reason I play games like Stalker and 7 days to Die, they both share the same quality elements that I find enjoyable. Sadly there's probably not a lot of mods out there that cater for your tastes, unless there's a mod that replaces mutants with fluffy bunnies and you have to go around and scavenge food for them. I'm not trying to poke fun, but from what I've read, that is something you would probably enjoy. I am perhaps the last person to ask about quests in this game, although I do enjoy them immensely, every quest I do brings me closer to a conclusion which is something I stay well away from. Hell, every time I get to level 20 I start a new game, simply because each moment is less precious and you loose purpose in the game world. Have even been thinking about restarting at level 12 because level 1 in the wasteland is such a special and interesting stage in the game. Hope you get a second wind, or find some mods you like. At the present I can't think of any that would interest you. Edited December 3, 2013 by surg23
pawzseven
fluffy bunnies...no. I'm not THAT girlie! Stalker series I find really scary, much more so than Fallout, but yes, I take your point, playing games that scare you is not really that enjoyable - but PC games primarily being written for fellas, there ain't a lot out there for me. I play city building games - they can be quite absorbing for a time, though the older ones were better I think. FPS's like Half-Life are generally a bit too fast for me, though I have got a long way into the first Half-Life. I do get a bit bored with pure action stuff though. Stuff like ARMA and C.O.D I can't really get into, just sit on my shelves or in the STEAM folder. I like games where you are a free spirit and can roam freely and do yer own thing. Anything too structured and linear turns me off. No, I will still dip into F3 ( which I prefer to New Vegas) but perhaps not RTS, then I can do my own thing without hindrance and surely find some quests I haven't done - that will keep me on my toes. well... getting near to kip time. The music problems stopped me doing much today and yes, there are frequent interruptions in my day, despite being retired. Housework, dogs and husbands take their toll! It's my birthday today too ( but don't tell anyone). It is my seventy-wunth and ladies of my age are not supposed to play blood-thirsty PC games - indeed ANY PC games. We are expected to drool over grand-kids and knit socks and stuff. Blow that. Not for me.What I enjoy is to fix broken computers for folk and to refurbished unwanted machines and give to those who need one - and I play computer games. That's me, not babies ( or bunnies!). Anyways Surg. Off to bed, PS I am up to level 3 now but hardly done anything yet, killed a few raiders is all... night-night
surg23
Wow, 71! Happy Birthday! I am actually quite shocked and amazed, first at that how well you conduct yourself on the forum but more so that you are so cool with your video games and PC know-how, I really admire you for that. I am only 34, but I really hope I am like you when I get older. It's also sad that I never had a family member like yourself. Not even one of my whole family even relates to video games or PC's for that matter. You're a real gem. :) While I was reading your post, I was reminded of a mod that I installed that supposedly adds a massive quest-line and totally new area's. It's supposed to be pretty huge and all that, but I haven't actually starter with it yet. It's called Alton IL. Would link it but the nexus is down today. Apart from that there is another quest mod that you may already be aware of called Arefu Expanded AKA The Crimson Caravan, or that is the the continuation of AE. Haven't looked into that one yet, but it looks pretty cool. Well I hope you have a great Birthday or at least whats left of it and have a drink on me. :D
pawzseven
oh, thank you surg, nice words - I half-feared you would be turned off at the idea of chatting with an old wrinkly. I think you probably will be as interested in computer games as I still am when you get to your retirement years ( if this world keeps going that long that is). Something to do with our minds and makeup I s'pose. Such things don't change much with age do they. My youngest son bought me my very first 'computer' - hardly more than a toy - which was a ZX Spectrum. I was hooked from the get-go, and used to spend hours with a book of code in one hand, and dabbling the keys with the other, trying to write a game in BASIC. They hardly ever worked, and the taped games you could get on magazine covers were not much better, but it was fun. Progressed quite rapidly to Amigas, which were a great improvement graphics-wise. Bought my first sub-sim game and experienced the suspense of waiting for the depth charges to splash as the hunters passed overhead - delicious tension! Did not think I would ever get a 'proper PC' as they cost about £1000 then, and me being a divorced mum - no chance, but when a local architect asked me to be a part-time help and to do work for him at home as well, he bought each of us a new computer. WOW! Windows 95 then. It was part of our agreement that I looked after, troubleshot and maintained both machines, and though it felt like the deep end of the pool for a bit, I learned how to master the system and get into the driving seat so to speak, and have never looked back . Lots of folk at church and in the community know I can fix computers ( for free) so I am always either fixing 'em or playing games, but I am trying to retire a bit as having care of someone elses machine and being depended upon can be a bit stressful - especially when you call someone to say 'it is ready' and they jump in their car and THEN you get a blue screen.... Alton IL. No not heard of that one. In game last night ( brief visit) I found a place called Red Racer. Got to screw up the courage to go in there next time - but I found the ruins eerily empty, hardly any enemies. In fact one trader with dog and two raiders ( who I promptly shot in the hope they would have some grub, but they did not) were the only beings I met. I am seriously thinking of going back to the point where I come out of Vault 101, and starting again, as having Darwins house gives me equipment I really didn't oughta have at the start, so skews my advantage. Cheating really, but it stops me having a heart attack at every corner. Well, I know you would not approve of that, so maybe I will do it your way, just to see if I can stand it. So, might do that and load this Alton IL. The Arefu one sounds vaguely familiar, will have a look at that too , thanks surg :)
surg23
Hehe, Well you put my effort to shame, when my dad handed me a book on Visual Basic I stared at it blankly for 10 minutes, then used it to rest my beer on. I have never been good at the numbers game, or the motivation to do things worthwhile. Similarly I got into computers at a young age, used to build them for friends and family or run maintenance for payment, usually in the form of a carton of beer. Game development has always been on my life goal list, but as it turns out, my brain isn't built to understand such things. For a long time now I have just been playing games, have given up all my aspirations for game design and I've become such a hedonist that I don't even build machines or bother learning about them. I go into a hardware enthusiast frenzy every 4 years when I upgrade my system, but once it's running and all the pretty lights are blinking, its back to gaming. :) I must be getting out of sync with your time-frame, I frequently shift between nocturnal and normal sleeping, right now I have come full circle and woke up just moments ago, but I hope I can still catch you online. But I hope you had a nice Birthday yesterday, did you get any cool presents ? And yeah, the vanilla wasteland was a bit too sparse in terms of inhabitants for me too, but not any more thanks to this MMM mod. You know you could always try installing MMM but reducing the difficulty and/or customizing it to your tastes via the control module. It is very customizable, you can configure it to only spawn creatures of your choosing. In further detail, there are friendly creatures like lizards and small gecko's that scurry around and make little sniffing sounds. One of my favorite features is the "Corpse flies" which are these tiny flies that hover near corpses and emit some kind of beautiful bio-luminescent blue light, they don't even make that annoying buzzing sound, very cool feature. All creatures in this mod adhere to a hierarchy and food-chain system, so they are usually found hunting each other, the small prey upon the weak, they also have their preferred social groups. Additionally, vanilla creatures like Super mutants, Rad scorpions are bigger uglier and look so much better visually. Another great feature is the animal parts you can loot from almost all creatures, Super mutants will sometimes have Mirelurk meat or Boar meat, you can harvest teeth, fur, eyeballs, bulbs, skin and meat from any creature which enhances the survival mechanics. It's very easy to use and you not only choose which mutants to spawn, but always the density and rate they spawn at. I currently have everything turned on with the Increased-increased spawns option selected, though I think I might have to tone it down a bit as a leisurely stroll at the Superduper Mart quickly turned into a small war. http://i.imgur.com/VOf1lwg.jpg http://i.imgur.com/TgSJvvL.jpg If you need any help installing it, or configuring it let me know. pawzseven
crumbs, small war indeed!yes thanks, birfday was nice ( if one has to have 'em I like 'em unfussy and very low-profile). My daughter gave me some delish chocs and some tights - which is good as I needed some more. Only trouble is, she forgets I am not quite as sylph-like as she and so gets the small size - but this time I think she got medium, so that OK. Numer 2 son and girlfriend got me a dark red sleeveless top, which looks warm, so that will get some mileage. Birthday press from Best Beloved ( name of Peter) was some weeks ago when he bought me a new PC Tower, mobo and processor, bless 'im. I have come on a bit since we last spoke. I went back to the beginning of F3 and ditched Cmdr Darwins home and the mini-hideout and high-tailed it to Megaton, but that worked out as less than satisfactory as I needed a bed to sleep in and couldn't get one, so was getting tired while exploring, with nowhere to go to, so I put the mini-hideout back in, just to have somewhere to kip in before resuming journey to the map marker. I took on the quest to help the old geezer stop the leaks in the water pipes at Megaton, and the quest to see if the Wests were OK at Arefu, and now have to deal with the Family nearby, but I have to keep finding enough stuff to sell at Moira's at Megaton to get some more ammo, so I am in and out of that place like a fiddlers elbow.I kept RTS in,but I had several freezes so took it off and since then the game has run smoothly. You have persuaded me about the MMM mod - it sounds quite appealing! I will look into it tomorrow when I get time, evening probably.Oh, I managed to get the sherriff shot at Megaton, because I told him about the slimy guy in Moriarty's who wanted me to detonate the bomb. Upon confrontation Mr Slimy shot him dead. What happens to Megaton if the bomb does detonate, do you know? All the time I need Moira I don't want to try it.I have also downloaded two more mods, one called .. umm, hang on..Point Lookout Reborn, t'other the one you said Alton IL. Both are activated but I am not aware of them yet as still mucking about in standard area of play. There was also another that I thought you would be interested in called Fairfax RTS which looked neat, and I downloaded it to see if I could make a village with it, but having removed the RTS now, I removed that as well. Right, dog is squeaking to go out for her final wee, so I had better say 'night-night world' and shut down. Cor, you have got all the gear on in that screen ain't ya. I am scratching around in raider garb at present....
surg23
Oh nice one, you got some cool PC components! There is no better gift. Glad to here it was a good day for you. :) So you started again aye ? Well now I am jealous, hmph. And its funny but I did the exact same thing with Lucas simms, I let Burke shoot him since he's always acting like such a tough guy, turns out he's not so tough and I get his Duster and hat, it's a win-win. I actually don't know what happens if you detonate the Nuke, like you I value Moira greatly and absolutely love making the Wasteland Survival guide with her, so I always end up killing Burke and disarming the Nuke. Rumor has it that Moira becomes a Goul if you detonate it, that's all I know. Well I can't blame you for removing RTS, it is a fantastic mod but it's quite buggy and it's scripts are very draining on the game. I have it stable, but there are many oddities that happen like the merchant caravan's seem to do some weird stuff from time-to-time. I have removed RTS for now, just because I ran out of caps to develop my village and further. And it will be a long time until I have the caps I need. Thank you for the mod suggestions, Point lookout Reborn looks pretty sweet, I'm adding that to the list for sure. At the moment I haven't touched any DLC content or Alton IL's content or the main quest really. Spent a very long time just trying to establish myself and finish the guide with Moira. If you're still playing with FWE you will probably relate to how much slower you progress as opposed to vanilla. I do hope you give MMM a shot, it runs smoothly and adds so much to the experience. Here's a bunch of people I'm glad are on my side. There was about 15 of those scary guys patrolling near my once great village lol. http://i.imgur.com/Wxy0unB.jpg
pawzseven
so I should team up with the Outcasts hey? In previous games they usually walk by me with looks of contempt on their, er masks. Hmm.Can't do too much today, but will get back in tonight. Glad I didn't detonate the bomb - the only ghoul I take to is Gob, the rest in DC are not as sweet as him!. Catch ya later. surg23
Frankly I don't know what their deal is, and yeah they are quite arrogant. But they are well armed and i'm just glad they don't shoot at me at this point. It's weird though as there is another type of Brotherhood guy call Brotherhood outcast that seems affiliated with the raiders and they DO shoot at me, not very pleasant at all. I was very close to starting a new game before I looked at how much stuff I have looted throughout this play through, so much crafting material that would go to waste. Now I know where all that time went. Not sure if you have this one, but it's a really popular graphical enhancement mod by the name of Fellout, I never tried using it before because I didn't think it worked with Imaginator, but it does! And quite brilliantly I might add. Combined with NMC texture pack the game is hardly recognizable, it's just beautiful. http://i.imgur.com/F7No57F.jpg http://i.imgur.com/NfWYzvW.jpg Nights are a little dark though. Don't think I'll be traveling at night anymore. (it's this dark because of my Imaginator settings) http://i.imgur.com/xk078SN.jpg
