pawzseven
not sure how to put screenshot into here, so have made a .jpg attachment called green world and flora mods, which is what I am using. I have seen mention of Fellout, but reckon I prefer a bit more green and flowers, albeit of the thistle variety! ps, one of your shots shows a sunny day with blue skies. Don't think I get those - or rain come to that, just overcast. Edited December 5, 2013 by pawzseven
surg23
That picture reminds me of Oblivion lol. How do you see enemies hiding in the trees ? That's a dangerous world you live in hehe. Edited December 5, 2013 by surg23
pawzseven
I'm kinda stuck at the moment. I downloaded MMM, tried to sort out which modules would be right for me, and the game ran, but soon froze, so, for now, have taken it off again, partly because I am down to using a chinese pistol +10mm ammo because Moira hasn't got the ammo for the rifle, and having scoured everywhere for stuff to sell to her so I can get some more ammo, I am down to tin cans and empty bottles. I am running out of caps and only have a handful of bullets, and with no more resources. I will soon run out of ammo if I take on the raiders in the school or supermarket, and that will be the end of me, never mind multiple mutants crawling out of the woodwork. All I have left is a police baton, and my score for such weapons is quite low... Ho Hum...poor me. Enemies in trees? Really? Don't recall that risk in vanilla... oh dear.. I also don't seem to be hidden anymore. Is that Left-Ctrl? I crouch but everything can still see me and there is no 'Hidden' on the screen. Makes a girl feel very vulnerable... surg23
Welcome to FWE lol. That's the point of the mod, makes it true survival, very different from the spoon-feeding, (world revolves around you) vanilla game play. Authors of mods like FWE see Fallout in more dimensions, in vanilla there is just story telling and role playing and you play as God more-or less, well FWE adds an entirely new dimension to the game ( Survival and Realism) They realize the role of the protagonist in FO3 is a mismatch in contrast to the game world, in the context you have poor starving people who can't find money, food or a home, but for the protagonist everything grows on trees. Its farcical that there are no tangible reasons why anybody else in the world can't walk around and be rich in an hour and live in places so easily accessed by the player. The mod more-or-less puts you on equal footing with a real struggling wastelander. From a role playing standpoint, FWE just attempts at stripping off layers between the world and you, bringing you closer to a feasible role playing experience. Stealth in FWE works similar to how sneaking does in real life, ie - It wouldn't be possible for me to sneak around 5 meters in front of you, even if you were blind. FWE stealth by default is much more realistic, you actually need to put points in it to be mildly proficient at it. But that's what the Stealth boy is for. Remember you can toggle your stealth-field using the "X" key. Also it is very important that you do not (run-sneak) especially if you don't have many points invested in the skill. If you don't like how hard it is you can change the settings with the FWE module in your Pip-boy. Though I would recommend trying it out for a while, it will in the end make you much better at the game. (Only fast sneak when you don't have line-of-sight on enemies) Like a wall between you. Also only fast sneak from a long distance. You do really have to conserve your ammo early on, Bullet-time ("C key" is your best friend, use it whenever you can. You can't afford to spray bullets from wall-to-wall like in vanilla. It will take you a very long time to get a decent supply of ammo, 100 hours at least (if your not cheating) In the beginning, you really have to tough it out, be resourceful, don't take big risks and level up smartly. Also as I suggested before, you should look into crafting your own ammo, there are perks for this. Sprint, sprint and sprint! Great to get out of a tight jam (shift key) or get places in a hurry. It will at times (depending on difficulty) take you hours to complete a quest that would normally take 10 minutes in vanilla. Traversing small areas takes time and planning because everything you do now is consequential, unlike vanilla where you can make every possible mistake and still succeed. Every aspect of the game holds more value and reward, value in the sense that if you have progressed, you have earned it, reward in the sense you no longer have a false sense of worth that vanilla encourages you to have. I'll admit, I die a lot with this mod, I didn't get into that Superduper mart on the first try, let me tell you it was far from it. But the feeling when I eventually did was great. As I walked back to Megaton gawking at all the shiny weapons I just got I knew I had earned them. If you're having trouble getting MMM to run, please post your load order and some information on which method you used to install. Edit: Also get used to dieing, and don't be discouraged by it, wastelanders die all the time. Use quicksave function if you have to (F5) - Also, disable autosaves save on rest/save on travel/save on wait - It will make things more stable. pawzseven
thank you surg, encouraging. I am going to go back to just outside the Vault and start again from there, and follow your advice. I HAVE been sneak-running at times, haven't used stealth-boy at all and assumed it was my bad playing that caused the problem I am currently in. I shall put my wise head on and keep it down - not go on any distance quests - until I am better equipped. However, I wil still keep the mini-hideout so I have somewhere to kip and don't have to mess with humans more than is necessary.... I will leave MMM for now, wait until I have built up some resources, and then give it a go. If I can't get it to work properly I shall come back to you on that if we are still in touch.
surg23
Yeah, leaving MMM off for now is a good idea. FWE is hard enough when you first make the transition. I hope things are going better for you. Sorry, that I can't reply to you sooner, I am in day mode, which is probably out of sync with your hours. I'm not sleeping very well either, I woke up at midnight to check if you had replied but was so tired I went back to bed. That and I think a spider bit me in my sleep lol. I'll keep this short so that we may have a real time conversation for a bit. Edited December 6, 2013 by surg23
pawzseven
hope you get back on track soon. A good night's kip is important -don't wake up on my account, I will still be there the next day.Have been looking at FWE settings, kept most at FWE default except for sneak, which I have set to 'realistic' but wanted the messages up as a help while I am so vulnerable, so that is vanilla, for now - got eyes on stalks looking for trouble otherwise.I did a recce at Super-Duper and was waiting to see what a giant rad-scorpion would do ( I only had a baseball bat and a 10mm pistol at the time, so didn't fancy my chances). Anyway, there I am hunkered down, and a man with a rifle came running past - normal enough I s'pose, but followed shortly after by two black blobs at head-height, moving as if they should have bodies under them. They looked like two wigs going out for a stroll! At present I am in possession of a sten-gun and 40+ bullets and am trying to get a raider to come after me outside Springvale school. One did, and met his end ( which is who I got the gun from), but so far no luck with anyone else taking my bait. Odd thing is, I can't see the new gun, just my hands holding it! I went back to my hideout as it was getting dark, and just as I closed the steel shutter, the game froze. At that point I came here to see if you were about, and you are/were. Spider-bite! Glad I don't live there, bbrrrr. ah, PS. My game is set to save on the three states, but it also autosaves, and I do not see how to turn that off as you advised. I will look again next time I go in Edited December 6, 2013 by pawzseven
surg23
Haha, Oh dear, it doesn't sound like the mod was installed properly. You have toggled "Archiveinvalidation" on and off after installing ? - That is usually the cause of missing models/textures. FOSE has this option built in (under tools) But I fear it might be related to the manager you use. I usually run Archiveinvalidation manually from the F03 directory just to be safe. I've never had any issues with missing textures or models that way. You might want to try downloading the archiveinvalidation tool and plonk it in the F03 folder. http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/944/? Also keep an eye out for a FN p90c - that's a great weapon for this stage in the game. Just go for head shot's and use single taps on the trigger to conserve ammo. About the save settings, you can find the option in the main menu under "Game play" - Turn it all off, it's pretty critical that you do when using mots of big mods. I also forgot to mention, there is an item in your pip-boy called "Gun oil" this is the module for adjusting weapon characteristics. I would recommend reducing the weapon sway effects way down, it is a bit overdone. You can also set the type and magnitude of penalties for worn weapons. Do you have any performance fix files/mods ? If you don't there are some you really need to have. Here are some that will make the game play more smoothly: Fallout stutter remover (you need to place the file sr_Fallout_Stutter_Remover.dll in to your Fallout\Data\fose\plugins folder.) http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/8886/? 4GB patcher - Use this to patch your fallout3.exe http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php Alternative to the 4gb patcher - depends on operating system and memory. http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/6510/?tab=2&navtag=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nexusmods.com%2Ffallout3%2Fajax%2Fmodfiles%2F%3Fid%3D6510&pUp=1 Also, .ini edits - (Open up the fallout.ini file in: My Documents\My Games\Fallout3Find the line:bUseThreadedAI=0change it to:bUseThreadedAI=1Add another line after it and insert:iNumHWThreads=2This will limit the game to 2 cores and prevent the engine bug from causing the game to freeze. pawzseven
yes, happened again and this time I found out that the 'wigs' were actually the gloves of a Brotherhood Outcast - yet his companion was all there. No haven't turned archive invalidation off, don't think. Will check. Ok to the antistutter and the .ini's. Not sure about the 4gb patch though - tried that on Silent Hunter 4 and the system got very unhappy. This is an i5 with 8gb DDR3 64bit running Win7. The Brotherhood Outcasts were running past my hideout, twice. Each time I followed them and was able to pick up a bit of loot on each occasion. Still haven't done Super-Duper, having fun picking off the raiders in Springvale by getting them out into the open, but they are a bit tame - no guns so far. The way I see it, you wouldn't go into the lions den in real life, so I am safer getting them to come to me, at least, until I am a bit better armed and clothed.Anyway, nuff for tonight methinks. Night-night surg. hope you get a better night's kip and no arachnids when it is your turn. Edited December 6, 2013 by pawzseven
surg23
Hehe, well you actually need to "toggle" the archiveinvalidation - You need to disable it and re-enable it each time you add stuff that adds raw files, textures/models/sounds etc. This just tells the game to read from raw files first then BSA archives. That would probably explain why you are seeing half rendered npc's and raiders without their guns. Though the missing weapons might be a load order problem. The 4GB patcher is a must, and if it is not successful it is easily reversible as it creates a backup of the Fallout3.exe file. The stutterremover will stop the game from stuttering, but instead of massive stutter effect it will be reduced to everything having a slight smear effect to it, I much prefer the smear to the stutter as the stutter makes manual aiming near impossible. I'm anxious to see what the problem is with your game issues, if the above does not work maybe you can post your load order. Speak to you soon.
