mohikana
Hey all. I'm starting to use the GECK a little, but I've run into a problem that so far people I know who can use the GECK can't help with. I'm not happy with the way the default house in Megaton is, and I haven't bothered with themes since the first time I played the game. So I fire up the GECK, follow the procedures of copying the cell, renaming it and then systematically deleting all the content of the themes, so I have a visual reference to create the interior layout the way I want it. I get things just right, save and load it up. I haven't been able to get it working, the .esp keeps crashing my game as soon as I enter the house. So my question is whether or not it is even possible to delete the themes of the Megaton House? If it is, am I missing a step? I tried deleting the references for the various themes as well (Those red X's which correspond to Wadsworth, the jukebox, etc...) but it doesn't seem to help. BadPenney
Deleting things from the original game can be hazardous to your mod. Also, if you have duplicated the Megaton House interior cell to use as your Megaton House cell did you delete the original interior cell? It sounds as if you have deleted references that are still being called for, whether it be items or the cell itself. If it were me, I would probably start from scratch. Keep the original interior cell instead of duping it. Instead of deleting items that you don’t want, just edit them and drop their z position coordinate by a good amount; -500 should get them out of your way without pushing the interior cell bounds. I wouldn’t disable them in this instance. That way any processes that refer to the Megaton House interior cell or its original contents should be satisfied and not crash your game. You could try undeleting everything if you want, but that may be more trouble than starting over.
mohikana
Thanks, BadPenney. It'll take me forever to get all the items out of the actual house, but I hadn't thought of doing that in the first place. You were right; I hadn't deleted the original, and I tried to remove all references, so it figures that the cell put my game in a headlock and forced it to call it 'uncle' :P
