Enclave desertors HQ

1-st of all, I have a limited number of characters in topic description, so I could not explain properly.

I suck at coding. I can do editing, graphics and such. All related to visuals.

As a matter of fact 90% are already done, heh.

Let me explain.

I was allways frustrated of fact that your repetable mini quests had no impact. You bring scrap metal... then what? People are still complaining. You bring tech to Outcasts, they still wear the same armors, and so on.

So... let's presume that some Enclave elite troops/scientists are deserting. They are somewhere in the Wasteland, they do have the knowldedge and some basic defense sistems. Are somewhat fortified in a bunker. Not a big one but still a bunker, in a good defensive position. Ammo is depleting, armors and weapons are falling apart, no food, no water, no stims. There are aggro spawns nearby. They are desperate to find a leader, but not ANY leader.

You find about them somehow... let's say a note on a corpse near V101 and you decide you can be their leader.

Like I said, I have the bunker (underground part and field part), took me a bit of time to make it and I like it. (I'm an "allways redo" addict, I'm never happy with my work) What I need is someone to help with the code. Well. not to help. To actually do the code/dialogues from scratch.

There is a LOT more. Basically you will need to provide them with armors, weapons and ammo. Also stims, food and/or water. In exchange the scientists will research for you (schematics, medicine, etc), the soldiers will defend the HQ. If you provide them with enough materials they will build more advanced defenses and eventually they will be able to develop new weapons / armor and send out raiding patrols. Btw, you will need to PAY them too.

Is there someone with enough time and pacience to work on this with me?

Like I said, I'm only a designer/editor, but I can do wonders if I have enough time.

I'd love to see this working.

Send me PMs or post here.

Thank you,

Tahadar

Here are a couple of screen shots.

There is only minimal light, of course, you need to provide certain parts to repair the fusion generator.

I also removed the people, I don't know if is better to put them there and assign scripts after or to write scripts for every one then to place them inside.

By coding do you mean scripting?

Yes, scripting and dialogue are laborious. I am wading through the process for my own mod right now. I spent most of yesterday creating dialogue for 2 NPCs that triggers when the player enters the same cell at a certain time of day. Entering the cell at different times get different dialogue, just for the sake of variety.

AI packages, scripting and dialogue can be quite frustrating and I am learning much through trial and error. For instance, it seems to me that AI packages work more smoothly if stacked onto the NPC in order of execution rather than haphazardly.

I like your idea about providing materials for the bunker's upgrades. You might check out the script for making ultrajet from sugar bombs that Murphy the ghoul uses in the Northwest Seneca Metro for ideas.

I maybe more selfish than other modders, so I'm going to throw this back in your lap and challenge you to learn the skills necessary to pull this off; for two reasons. The first is because, like most active modders, I have a project of my own design to complete. The second reason is that you are a rework addict and will likely not be satisfied with the first, second or third efforts of someone who doesn't exactly share your vision of your own mod.

You've gotten this far, you should be able to go all the way.

Not quite a fair challenge, but who said life is fair? Heh.

I've gotten "that far" because is my job lol. I'm what you call in english "a graphic artist".

About reworking... of course I started another version of bunker as soon I arrived home. Figured that must look like a place where some ex-soldiers live, not like some vault ocupied by a gang of raiders. Must be clean and ordered. Currently I'm changing the furniture with a more cazon one and re-arranging the bio lab and physics lab.

Yes, I realise frustration and what amount of work we are talking here. And I'm totally clueless about a lot of things.

As an example: I have like 4 versions of MercHQ. Pics are from 1-st one. The second one have lights and machines in labs (one quest is to raid/aquire old computers from an old vault) I have no ideea what I shoud do. To "hide" the computers and lights? To have both cells loaded and somewhat replace the old one with the upgraded one? As far I know there is no place in game that changes drastically with quest NPCs inside.

Also I was planning to line up the mercs/soldiers for an inspection. You know, like in any army. They keep talking with me when I come close (I use umpa's poses to make them stand still).

Darn ye, man... why you HAD to go there? Now is spinning in my head. Grrrr.

The two hardest things... at least time consuming are creating the lib files if you want to do full dialog. AI packaging is just equally tedious, but requires thorough planning.

If you want help, I can do it for you. We just need an exact plan of what you want. That way I can just jump in and get it done in a few days.

That's my first calling too. I got into tech because it pays better, and because I got tired of making junk mail that people look at for 3 seconds before throwing away.

I love the retexturing stuff, but if a splash and daub codger like me can learn the scripting then I'm sure that you can. And it is satisfying in its own way.

But of sumoftwosins will help you, then give it away. He must be nicer than me.

@sumoftwosins

Yeee-haa!

You've just brighten my day, sumoftwosins. Is 09.30 here and I was checking the forums.

I already feel better.

I have to admit, even I love the ideea of having a palpable impact in game world (is my baby after all) I was started to think at abandoning it. Is a huge task even for an experienced scripter/coder. For a clueless person like me would've been next to impossible.

Well... I'm not THAT clueless lol, but I regullary get stuck in code lines. I will PM you with my contact details (ym, e-mail, etc) to not spam the forums with trash.

You really have NO ideea what joy you provided.

@BadPenney

Mate, is really my job. I mean my real life job, not a hobby. And maybe - just maybe - when the work advances a bit, you might decide to join? The offer still stands. 6 eyes are better than 4. Also it helps to have people with different mentalities in team - i'm sure you know what I mean, but my english is not that good to explain properly.
