Help making an energy shield mod compatibility patch and expansion

Hello there!

 

I have taken into myself to make a pretty hardcore mod setup to fallout new vegas. To this end, I think the Energy Shield mod is a perfect addition to add extra defense to your character in a way that makes sense. Unfortunately, it has been more than 10 years since this mod was updated, and it has a few annoying problems that I think could be easily fixed with modern tools like JIP and Jhonny Guitar.

 

The main problem with the mod is that bleed like effects from mods like BLEED and Bleedout will completely ignore the shield being up, while triggering the shield feedback relentlessly, which doesnt make sense and is very annoying. I would like to add some immunities while the shield is up, such as poison, burning and bleeding. Also, I would like to make minor improvements such as using scripted shield distribution for compatibility with other mods, making perks that interact with the shield, making consumables that restore shield life, making the shield take extra electric damage, and so on.

 

I dont have modding experience in Fallout New Vegas, but I tried to tinker with the esp to see if I could do something. It seens like every single shield in the game has its on script, so editing every single script to meet my needs seens inneficient at best. I noticed that the script applies a "KJKImmunity" perk to make the player immune to damage while the shield is up. I've editted BLEED and Bleedout effects to have a condition to not apply if the actor has the "KJKImmunity" perk, and it actually worked. Unfortunatelly, it only works for the player, as the perk is not applied to other actors for some reason. Then, I tried adding not having the spell "KJKImmunityEffect" as condition, which is supposed to be applied to every actor as in the scripts, but for some reason it made the bleed and burn effects fail regardless of the shield.

 

Can someone more experienced give me any tips as to how to make this work? Also, I'd like tips to use more modern tools to remake this mod.
