Final Fantasy meets Morrowind

Allright folks listen up.

My name is Tom Shea and i'm starting a game dev company but i need to make a few pro-bono projects to increase my team's portfolio and get the business geeks with the money to listen to us. I wanted to run an idea by ya'll.

For the past few years my team and I have been fascinated by the games that squaresoft has put out in the final fantasy line. However we think we can out do them tenfold.

I can;t go into much detail but the basics are a world like in Final Fantasy 8, 9 or 10...that kind of thing. We plan to make the game first person similar to morrowind, but with the cutscenes made popular in today's console RPG's. We also plan to include a battle system similar to traditional fighting games but on a much larger scale with many fights at once. (a-la- games like Enter the Matrix, or splinter cell). All together the game won;t have much of the boring "run around leveling for 8 hours" gameplay and focuses more on telling the story and actually DOING something all of the time. The game's specific details aren't open yet but that's the general idea.

Now i plan on doing some of the work for my portfolio in TESCS by creating the entire world, all the characters, monsters, items etc using existing materials. I don;t have enough of a team to create the entire game from scratch. All i really need to know is three things.

1) Can FMV be created in morrowind? (cutscenes triggered by in-game events A-la final fantasy series)

2) Can the fighting system be modified to incorporate more control over actions like swordplay, spellcasting, etc to make it more Mortal Kombatish (is that a word?)

3) Can the attributes and leveling system be heavily (complete redesign heavily) modified to include different stats, and a different leveling scheme?

If you experts can help or give me some advice i'd be much appreciative. It's been my dream since Dragon warrior for the NES to make my own RPG. I now know exactly what i want and how to do it.. i just need to find a way around all the programming BS that i'm not too good at.

Thanks

Ok. Im not a master at the TESCS, but i do know one thing: There is no way to get around the programming BS.....The scripting you need to do for NPC's/Enemies is complete programming. It may be a little easier than a lot of people think, and even easier for people with a background in some sort of programming language, such as Qbasic, Visual Basic, Java, C++, etc. Also, you need completely new textures for what you are wanting to do. My suggestion....learn to do some of these things first.....As far as the fighting system being more traditional(i.e. MK or DMC), im pretty sure you would need to edit the *.ini files, which also requires programming knowledge. Now i may be wrong about some things here, but i do know that there is no way to get around the programming. You may not have to do it, but someone does. Also, come up with some original ideas for your game/project. Or incorporate ideas from other games, like you are trying to do here, and expand on them. I personally dont want to play a morrowind/final fantasy mix unless its got some features that no other game has. Just a little tip...

About FMV. Yes, you can make FMV movies triggered by events. Sya, if you pick up an item, it plays a cut-scene. Make the item, and then make a script (requiring programming, I believe a modified version of C) that when "itemname" is picked up, play "cut-scene name." Then add the script to the item. I'm not a great scriptor, so I'm not sure of the actual scripts necessary, but if you study up on the script functions and such, it should be relatively easy.

As for the other things, a lot of what you want to do requires changing Morrowind's basic program. Although the construction set is a versitile tool, it does have its limits, and you can't do everything. I'm not saying you can't do the things you mentioned, but, like Jinn-Roh said, you'll probably have to edit the Morrowind.ini file.
