shushiboi
I'm sorry if I don't make much sense as I'm new to modding which I've watched a couple tutorials here and there, and even missed around with the blender a bit, so the terms I try to use may not be so accurate or the same as how veteran modders may use. If anybody has a hard time understanding me, correct me please as I want to become a better modder and to understand my problem better  So Im trying to replace the "appearance" (not sure whether this has to do with textures or meshes or both) of the existing armors that the factions wear because I honestly deslike their present armors and gear. I don't know if I have to do this first, but since the armors that I want to replace for the factions to wear in this game are mod armors (armors that aren't from New Vegas originally) I don't think that I have to install the mods since all I plan to do is just use the geck to replace the existing armors that the factions are originally wearing (in other words, find the file name of the armors that the factions use, and rename the mod armors title exatly the same as the originals so I can replace them). Honestly, I don't mind keeping the same cheap stats of the original armors that I plan to replace over with the modded armors, I just want to change the look of the armors is all. This is what I have done so far, I went to GECK and then => File => Data... => *Select, without checking the box* FalloutNV.esm => *Click on* Details Then wait for a little as it says (GECK Not Responding), one minute later The File Details box pops up and I did the labor of going through the file Types (TXST, MICN, CLAS, ENCH, ARMO) and then I copied down all of the Editor ID codes which I suspected would be the ones that would allow me to replace and change the appearance of the outfits and armors that the factions use in the game (I need help understanding what file Types such as TXST, MICN, CLAS, ENCH, ARMO all mean because I don't know which ones are the ones that I'm supposed to look for in order to alter [strictly just sticking with apearance of armors and apparel of factions only]). (Sorry if I sound redundant, Im just trying to provide as much information that I can possibly provide to make it easier on your part  ) So aside of my problem of understanding the meaning of file Types, how do I make these changes, how do I do the process of replacing the appearance of the faction armors so that their armors look like the modded amors that I want to use? Where do I go? After I figure out which file Types are the ones that I need to change, how do I find the IDs of the modded armors (do I have to install the modded armor mods, or do I have to place them in the fallout directory?) and how do I input them in the GECK and do the replacing process? (where I rename the Mod files exactly the same as the Faction apparel IDs', then copy and replace the titles). It's difficult for me to understand this process as well, I'm sorry if this sounds really confusing... but I really want to thank you for the time that you took to read my post and the trouble that I'm having   If you need anymore clarification or details, I'll be more than happy to tell you more and examples if you need them
CelsiuZ
Hey First i'd reccomend you watch this video, as it gives you a sort of overview of what modding armor entails:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTQEDM9zY5k And, this one will go a bit deeper into detail of Meshes and Textures:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E4KtDcpf3Lw What I am assuming you are asking is how to change textures and meshes? If so those videos should answer your question, if not, post and I'll try to help you some more! Cheers, CelsiuZ
ma1025
I've never really done this myself but you should just be able to extract your modded armors somewhere in your Data/Meshes folder, then in GECK find the armor you want to replace (ie: Enclave Power Armor) and double click it. Then in the Male/Female Biped Model boxes, link to the models you want to replace it with. You'd then save your changes as a new .esp file. GEKTAG
If changing the model and texture of an armor is all you want to do you, ma1025 has already said how to do it (I can give a detailed walkthrough in your PM if you would like), but i would also look at the videos CelsiuZ provided, they may be able to answer some of your questions. The file names (TXST, MICN, CLAS, ENCH, ARMO) are basically just what resources the file uses (by my understanding), and what can be displayed in the GECK. For example, you will see SCPT files, these are scripts that you will be able to view and edit if you set that mod as the master file or active file. ghost2021
Yeah man just find the faction armor in the geck then change the Meshes to the new meshes of whatever you want to replace them with, the files (Meshes, textures) have to be in your Fallout directory but other than that it's pretty simple.
