childeofmalkav
Last night I installed Oblivion after a 3 month break and from some reason my audio is buggy :S Player sound seem to be missing (Walking, and Fighting Sounds) but other sounds (People talking/walking/fighting) works fine. I can safely assume its not a Hardware issue as its the same hardware I used before, and then it ran without problems.I can also safely say its not Addons as I disabled them all.I tried reinstalling already. Its not the Unofficial Patchs because it appears before them (and after) Any ideas what causing this issue? UPDATE: I installed a fresh copy of Oblivion - No Patchs/Expansion/Addons/Anything and it still has issues.
Qwaxalot
Try renaming or deleting the oblivion.ini file (...\My Documents\My Games\Oblivion\Oblivion.ini) Oblivion will then redetect hardware. It will also, probably, not recognize your video card and set everything to medium. Just change the settings according to what you think your card will support (You can always change them later)
childeofmalkav
Didnt help either :( still theres no player sounds (but everything else works perfectly - could it be that my CD got a scratch that messed up those specific sounds?) Is there some warning\error log in Oblivion like in Morrowind? maybe this will help pinpoint the issue.

Try going into control panel and changing the speaker setup to stereo
childeofmalkav
I tried it, but I found a new bug (system bug this time) - I tried to change it to Stereo, but it doesnt apply :( If I close the window (after doing apply ofcourse) and open it again it comes back to 7.1 - even though I dont have 7.1 (only 5.1 and thats simulated from the regular Stereo connector) thats probably the cause for the Oblivion problem (probably it does play the sound, just into a nonexistent speaker) EDIT: Found the problem and fixed it :) turned out the software that came with the audio driver decided to swap the regular the Line Out to only play the Surround speakers and not the front. Thanks for the assistance Qwaxalot :)

I hadn't heard of any audio driver software that did that!
