Help stop freezing in combat

I've had this problem for quite a while now most of the time when I go into combat I start fighting and it will freeze for a few seconds then go back to normal. Sometimes it only does it once sometimes it does it 3 or 4 times. It will also do a similar thing when I go near someplace with a lot of npc's. At first I thought it was the game trying to load the textures but when I got rid of some of my texture packs it didn't seem to help much. I do have over 100 mods installed if anyone wants to see my load order I'd be happy to post it.
