Texture OK in G.E.C.K not not in game.

I've created a weapon model and imported it into the game, all is well except for the fact that the texture is not carrying .

Looking at the model in GECK via the preview the texture is there and correct.

From the tutorials I used the method where you export individual parts from 3DS Max as OBJ files then in NifSkope replace the pieces from a "like weapon" with the OBJ files you've exported... anyway, like I said no problem there.

Likewise in NifSkope you can reroute the textures to the ones that you've exported, again, no problem there (in so far as rerouting to the new texture.dds files).

I created a new Weapon in GECK based on my saved NIF from NifSkope, and instantly the textures popped in, so I'm at a loss.

My diffuse texture is 256x256 and my normals are at 128x128. Is there any other "must have" that I am clearly missing?

If I were to guess this has something to do with the Alpha Levels, but I'm not certain.

Oh one more thing my DDS files I'm saving as follows: DXT1 RGB 4 bbp | no alpha (but I did try all 4 of the 4 bbp version there).

Has anyone run into this before?

Thanks!

If it is showing up in the GECK, then the .nif should be fine I think. Try setting up a texture set. Miscellaneous > Texture Sets > New. That way you can apply the new texture sets to the object.

Nope, doesnt seem to be working either.

Made the following:

1stPersonGUNNAMETexture

1stPersonGUNNAME

WeapGUNNAME

Everywhere the texture is shown (on the model or flat) it appears correctly in GECK.

One thing I did notice in reviewing the NIF is that the OBJ's once imported were set to Shapes (per the instructions I used - ref first post). I did try setting them back to Strips, but nothing new happened there.

Oh also, I tried using the Alternate Texture fields to set the texture as well, no luck.

So annoying, everything works but the texture.

Any other thoughts?

Oh one more thing.

The base NIF that I replaced was the one for the Sniper Rifle, I just retextured my gun using the Sniper Rifle one, and it seems as though that is the one that the game is forcing to overlay (looks the same).

Now, I've scrubbed my NIF and don't see any reference to the Sniper Rifle at all, but something in the game must still be calling it out and replacing my texture.

In GECK itself there is nothing referenced outside of what I've specified, so it must be something imbedded into the NIF, but I'm at a loss to where. The only spot that contains texture information that I know of is the BSShaderTextureSet. Is there anywhere else that anyone can think of that may also hold texture information?

I'm not sure what's going on. Oh, have you still got the textures in the actual textures directory? As in Fallout 3\Data\Textures\Anything. Because if you mode it out of here there seems to be problems. Maybe try attaching it to a post here and letting us have a look.

Finally figured it out.

Basically, installation of the "AchiveInvalidation Invalidated!" application fixed it.

That and I reinstalled Fallout 3 in a directory that was outside of the Program Files Directory...

So... to sum it up,

If you are using Vista:

1. DO NOT install Fallout into the Program Files directory

2. DO Install and Activate the "AchiveInvalidation Invalidated!" application

That will fix texture problems you may be having IF those textures are appearing correctly in GECK.

Holty, thank you for your replies, much appreciated.
