cant start oblivion

so i installed oblivion and tried playing it and it crashed and didnt even get a suggestion to fix the problem

so i re-ran oblivion as admin and got the same thing

so i uninstalled and reinstalled oblivion and got the same thing

i thought it might be that my computer had vista on it, then i installed it on my friend's computer using the same disc and his comp had vista and it ran

any suggestions?

Last time when you uninstalled Oblivion, did you fully uninstall it using the setup meant for it? Or did you get an error, and did you manually remove the files? If you manually removed the files in your data folder, then you still have to uninstall the rest of the game. Here you can find a guide on how to uninstall Oblivion properly.

Here is a link to my uninstall/reinstall guide. It goes far beyond the standard procedure and includes cleaning the windows Registry which is where most of these type problems come from.
