youBlackEmporer
Do you believe that you could switch the names around and still have the statement be as valid? Determinism is our lives being pre-determined by the circumstances that we are born into (randomness of the universe) Destiny is our lives being dictated by God. I suppose they're equal parallels. Anyways who else has an opinion?
Icefiddell
I dont think where chosen to do anything, as Theta said the world and the Universe and so on is just to random for anything to predict higher power or not IMO. We make our own decisions it's our environment and the random things that happen around us and the actions of others that influence are decisions. The whole idea of i was 'chosen' to write this seems pretty pointless to me, i'd prefer to think i did this all on my own. Destiny on the other hand is a whole different matter, i'm just not sure about Destiny, i guess i'd like to think that i'm destined to do something great but who doesn't. But the whole idea of being chosen to do things IMO doesn't make sense.
youBlackEmporer
"Chosen" isnt exactly the right word. "Being Led" to do something is more what I'm talking about. There isn't a consciousness that makes a choice for you, its more like because this this and this happened to you, it will influence you to make this choice. In other words, your past leads you into your future.
Malchik
I think the general way we react is programmed by a mix of genetic coding and learned behaviour. In a given situation we would behave in a particular way. However whether and when such a situation arises will be affected by random events. Determinism would suppose that the randomness of the events was removed. You can argue that the type of person you are (genetic + learned behaviour) will pre-dispose you to face some situations more than others. It cannot possibly be extended to cover ever aspect. Even in a situation you could pretty much foretell would happen there will still be random elements.
