Nap1985
So I uninstalled the creation kit. Reinstalled. I can now load speculars as 1024 x1024 Bc5/Ati2 (3dc) made in gimp. Whew. I installed the plugin for XCF in Paint.net but apparently it hasn't worked in a few years. Thank you again for your help.
greekrage
Wow thank you! I guess I still have a lot to learn, not quite sure what the material files are for? Turns out the normal map isn't working in game either. I see in creation kit many of the tattoos/overlays have normals and speculars, as do many of the additions from Looks Menu Compendium. Are there extra steps required to get the game to display the normals/speculars for tattoos? Is that what the material files are for? Edit: I restarted creation kit and can load your diffuse edit, but both your normal and specular edit give me the same message about textures not matching.N and S should be based on the Diffuse map...thats a given... Imagine something bumpy like a wall with rivets on it.... If the normal map isnt based off the exact dimensions, resolution of the Diffuse map then the rivet bumps would not match the rivet color. Same applies to the specular map ...since changes in light would effect the wrong areas..Also note ALL textures/maps have to be power of 2 dimensions (8x8,16x16,32x32,........1024x1024 etc.... Personally i use a online map maker if im in a rush . You just load up the Diffuse map and select what you want to do and edit setting accordingly... It generates the map and saves it in various formats.. I then open that png (thats what output i choose ) in gimp and export as DDS http://cpetry.github.io/NormalMap-Online/ Edited January 1, 2023 by greekrage
Nap1985
That's interesting I'll have to try that. I did get the normals to work by changing some settings in the gimp normals plugin.
greekrage
That's interesting I'll have to try that. I did get the normals to work by changing some settings in the gimp normals plugin. making the normal map in gimp is simple.... after youve saved/exported the Diffuse map you simply right click on the image and go to filters/generic/normal.... Edit the scale if needed and OK... Tada!!! normal map done... Edited January 2, 2023 by greekrage
Nap1985
Yeah that's the one I was using that seemed to not be working in game. Or if it was working I couldn't tell. I ended up downloading a separate gimp normal map plugin that has additional options and the results were much, much better.
