Penois
Right so as usual, I downloaded a bunch of mods off the nexus. Then the problems began. Problem #1 - Game Crash After OMODizing the mods (AliveWatersNoFish, Carcernus Prison, Gold & Silver Bars, Personal Torture Chamber, Springfield Rifle, Tommygun), I loaded them up in OBMM then launched my game via OBSE as usual. I got up till the initial startup media (Bethesda Softworks logo) then the whole thing crashed back to desktop. But without any "Oblivion has encountered a problem and needs to close" message. I removed them one by one and found the ones causing problems (AliveWatersNoFish, Carcernus Prison, Gold & Silver Bars, Tommygun). Problem #2 - Patching Well I didn't know what the problem was. I checked my load order and it seems ok. I checked the folder structure of the problem mods and they were fine. Out of desperation I thought maybe it was because I got the SI expansion while only getting the Oblivion 1.2.4.016 patch instead of both Oblivion and SI patches. Maybe an .esm and DLC content mixup? So I went ahead and DLed the patch. Problem #3 - Old file not found Upon patching, the patcher stopped halfway with an error message saying "old file not found, however a file with the same name exists, patch aborted as files don't match". I read the troubleshoots, and it seemed an Oblivion reinstall is the safest way to go. Now I'm worried that a reinstall will lose me all 2.12gb of my mods. Anyway I can reinstall Oblivion without affecting Oblivion and OBSE themselves? Thanks for bearing with me. I'd appreciate solutions to any one of my 3 problems (how to fix crash in #1, some other problem than patches in #2, how to go about reinstalling Oblivion in #3 etc.). Again, thanks a bunch in advance. P.S. I use Windows XP SP3 if it's significant.
bben46
# 2 & 3 are the same thing - the patch If you got your game through a download such as D2D, You have to go to them for any patches. The ones at the official site will not work because of the D2D copy protection. Programs like OBSE will probably not work because of the D2D copy protection. If you have a pirate version, sorry about your luck. Don't be so cheap, buy the game. If you have the Game of the Year version, you don't need a patch. To find what version you have, look in the lower left corner on the loading screen. If it shows v1.2.0416 you already have the latest patch. You only need to install the latest patch, v1.2.0416, all of the stuff from earlier patches are included. If you have Shivering Isles, DO NOT use the Oblivion patch, ONLY use the latest Shivering Isles patch. All of the oblivion stuff is included. There is only one English version SI patch for both US & UK versions. If you DO NOT have Shivering Isles, use only the latest Oblivion patch for the language version on your original install disk. Be sure to get your patch from the official Bethesda site where they have FREE patches for every language version, There are 2 English versions, UK & US be sure to get the one that matches your disk. Bethesda site: http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/updates_patches.htm #1 crash - Hopefully getting the right patch installed will take care of this. If not post again. Penois
Thanks for your reply, I'm understanding the problem a bit better now. I purposely avoided getting a D2D version because I heard of potential incompatibilities such as the ones you mentioned, I didn't pirate it because hey, if all the good games are pirated then sooner or later the companies that make these games will die out. Anyway I think I understand the problem now. I installed Oblivion (CD)I patched Oblivion to 1.2.0416I installed SI (CD) So now I have to get rid of Oblivion's 1.2.0416 patch before getting SI's patch, am I correct? I guess I can't escape reinstalling Oblivion, how do I go about with leaving my mods intact? Otherwise I guess I'll back them all up and conduct the un/reinstall. Thanks for your help thus far, greatly appreciated.
Luminiari
Mods will remain intact (Thank the Lord!). So uninstallation and reinstallation is easy that way. However, it's only smart to back up your data folder. Just in case, y'know?
Penois
Thats a relief, following that I've reinstalled Oblivion and successfully implemented the latest SI patch to it. Retrying the failed mods, everything works fine now except for Carcernus Prison and Tommygun. Perhaps going by the default copy to /Data method will give me better results. Thanks to both of you, now I've got 4/6 mods working.

Penois
@dezdimona: I'm pretty sure the SI patch is standalone, the offical site itself says (regarding the Oblivion patch) "if you already have the latest SI patch installed then you do not need this", plus bben46 also mentioned that the SI patch contains the Oblivion patch's content. Thanks anyway. @Everyone else: This topic can be closed if any mods want to. Fixed the last issue, I previously updated OBSE from v016 to v017 without updating the obse_loader since I thought only the .dll files changed. Damn do I feel noobish. Anyway I updated the loader and everything works fine now. Thanks to everyone who helped me out. :thanks:
