Steam Lengendary Edition not installing DLC .esms!?

This post was intended to deal with missing DLC .esms for my Skyrim Legendary Edition install. But since enquiring deeper into my problem, I'm beginning to suspect one of two things... that I didn't install these properly through Steam to begin with - thus the reason the are not present in my Skyrim folder or something worse.

I have a legit boxed version of Skyrim Legendary Edition (SLE) and it says on the box that the DLC add-ons Dawnguard, Hearthfire & Dragonborn are all included. However, I was not expecting this to be installed through Steam.

When I installed SLE through an old Steam account, I thought I was installing all of the DLC's that come with this edition. However, since deciding to mod my game it's become apparent that the DLC.esms are not installed.

I've been playing Skyrim for over 170hrs on Steam without trouble. I thought I was playing the Dragonborn DLC quests, but when I started to mod the game with Static Mesh Improvement Mod, BOSS showed that the required DLC.esm was not installed. Now when I try to play the game it crashes to desktop immediately because of this missing master (and so it should until I remove SMIM).

I guess my question is, if I actually do have the Legendary Edition disc of Skyrim, wouldn't it automatically install these DLC's through Steam? They should be in my Skyrim folder or show up in my Nexus Mod Manager right? Or did I miss something in the initial Steam Installation process? I can't find anything on Steam that shows my install status.

Thanks in advance for any help regarding this issue.

I had the same problem. You have to "activate" each DLC in Steam to get them to work, whether you have them on a CD or not. Fire up Steam in Online mode and look in your Library for Skyrim. IIRC, you can view the DLC available (maybe right-click on Skyrim-->Properties-->DLC. I hope, I haven't actually fired up Steam in a long time.). Then activate or enable each DLC. Steam "knows" you have the Legendary Edition (if you installed Skyrim from it) and the DLC will then show up in-game.

Thanks Lord Garon for the response. I've just got back from downtown as I went back to the store I bought Skyrim from, because I know the salesman. He told me that he had given me the wrong CD for my case!

I live in Canada, and here the game stores open the sealed game boxes to display an empty case on the shelves. I guess he was too busy to notice his mistake, when I bought the game. And so that's why I don't have the DLC's, because I've installed the wrong version of Skyrim for the box I've got.

Anyway, he was kind enough to give me a new and correct CD of the Legendary Skyrim with all the DLC's. So now I've got to replace what I've installed with Steam and everything will be as it should be.

It's a bit of a pain, but I'm happy with the end result. And I won't forget to activate the three add-ons when I install this new version. Take care Lord Garon
