 Hey guys, I'm reinstalling Oblivion for my GF to play through. I used to have tons of mods installed and the game played beautifully. Now I have a clean install that I can't even stutter my way through the first prison convo.

CPU: Intel® Core 2 CPU 6600 @ 2.40 GHz

Motherboard:nForce4 Intel Edition CPU to PCI Bridge

Graphics card:NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS at Stock Speed

Sound Card:Intel® High Definition Audio Controller

RAM:3.00 (4.00) GB of Ram

Hard Drive(s):

CD/DVD Drives(s):HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H31N

Power Supply:

Operating System: Win XP sp2

I have just updated my Nvidia driver and I have done the official patch.

I'm also running the streamline 3.0 mod which doesn't help.

I also did the .ini optimization found here http://www.tweakguides.com/Oblivion_8.html

The game performs incredibly slowly. Whereas I can boot up Fallout 3 and it works just fine.

Maybe I need to defragment? I haven't done it in a while.

Certainly, defrag the drive.

Also You may be having a problem with background processes.

A Clean boot (a totally reversible process) can help by clearing all unneeded processes, then test the game.

If the game now runs better, you can use task manager to locate offending processes.

bbens re-install guide may also help.

Streamline does work well. It just has to be set up correctly.

One thing that a lot of people miss (not you current problem)

is in the Details settings - set terrain to 0 (off) or you will

have some problems keeping the distant lands turned on in the

game settings. The purge function works well.

Did you optimise the ini before playing ? If so then try with the vanilla ini,

and see how you go. It is possible a setting change got a typo.
