OBMM and Loading Companion Mod = Crash >.<

Ok let me first of all thank everyone doing mods and for the whole community here. I've been passing through page after page of topics and reading up but didn't see much relating to my issues. Specs first then my issue. I just built this machine 2 weeks ago and now I'm starting to slowly get my games reinstalled. Vista SP 1 32 bit is the OS, so I'm starting behind to begin with. I can play the game normally and with some mods installed, not that I know that they are actually working but the game will run with them in.The game and all expansions are installed correctly and work right including: Horse Armor, Orrery, Frostcrag Spire, Thieves Den, Vile Lair, Mehrunes Razor, Spell Tomes, Knights of the 9, and Shivering Isle. The game is updated to the latest patch for both OB and SI, no cracks or other bs, disc in the tray.

Now I can load the Companions mod and an associated mod such as Olivia Companion or Piper, with required mods installed too and the game just crashes. I'm not sure if its the companion mod or one of the companions. I can load the OBSE (for Piper) and the Companion mod alone (plus others required) and still crash. I've run the conflict detector and it red text highlights Frostcrag.esp and Knights.esp. I'm using HGEC Body Replacer instead of Eyecandy, should I be using both? If needed I can list all mods I've got under OBMM to pin point maybe a conflict issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If I need to list anything else just let me know.

I very much doubt it has anything to do with Vista.

Your only recourse is to remove all mods, start with a clean install (and back it up whilst you have it so you don't have to uninstall / reinstall in the future) and then slowly add your mods back in.

Good luck.

I haven't assigned a load order yet. I've already tried the uninstall/reinstall before coming here, like I said I read a lot and tried a lot different things on my own before coming here, last ditch and all. I created a desktop short-cut for OBSE like in the read.me to load the game.

For Piper I'm loading:

HGEC Body 1.21

Piper Normal 1.0

OBSE 1.0

Partners Mod

Now I have OBSE running through the OBMM, is this allowed or should it be installed separately as the RM states? Its the same for Olivia Companion and Ambreska. I load required mods and fire up the game to crash.

Unless you have an HGEC that includes the textures and esp. you still need EyeCandy.

HGEC is a new (as in after EXNEM) body mesh that is rigged for EXNEM textures,

and unless things have changed, (it's been a while since I looked) HGEC still needs

EXNEMS EyeCandy.

If the Read Me says do something then that's what you do....

If OBSE is installed properly, then when you launch Oblivion from OBMM it automatically starts OBSE first.

You are showing OBSE 1.0 as a mod. It is a utility program and will not show up in your load order. OBSE must load before the game starts, and is now up to v0017a. The Piper CM companion needs at least v0016

The latest version, along with documentation on how to install is available here:

http://obse.silverlock.org/

All CM companions also require

CM Partners Basic

Here is the installation instructions from the CM Partners

CM Partners Mod 2.0: Unzip all files into a backup folder and examine the file structure. Decide on the files you want to install based on the First Time Installation section below, and copy them to your Data Files folder and click yes to overwrite the existing files. New files have the same date-time stamps as the original files and will still work with your existing custom Partner NPC mods.

First Time Installation: To install the plugin, unzip the files into a backup directory and look at the file structure. Only copy the files needed to the Oblivion/Data Files directory. The Partners Mod is divided into three types of files included, the main CM Partners.esm, the main CM Partners.esp, and a number of NPC esp files. There are two versions of the main files in the directories marked Oblivion Only and Oblivion and SI. Copy the main files that match the version you have installed on your computer. If you don’t want your Partner NPCs to go invisible when the Player uses invisibility potions and spells, also copy the CM Partner.esp file from the appropriate subfolder marked NoInvisibility to Data Files and overwrite the existing file.
