BCbrad
It seems there is a pretty solid variety of environmental texture packs and upgrades. I am looking for opinions on what is the best mod. I have a decent machine so performance is not a big concern. Its always good to be aware of diminished performance, longer load time, loss of stability, etc; so when I choose I think I'd like a texture overhaul with the best bang foe the buck. Thanks! CaffeinatedOrange
Honestly, there's only a few big "texture overhaul" mods that cover more than a general set of textures (e.g. flora, buildings, so forth), I think you're going to be looking at a mix of texture mods because of that, as well as personal preference. Personally, I like having Bethesda's official pack DL'd and activated. Then I extract all the parts of Skyrim HD and have those ready to be installed. Then I extract the parts of Skyrim Realistic Overhaul (no longer on the Nexus due to author being banned), and when asked, I overwrite all the files of Skyrim HD with that. Then I install whatever "specific" texture mod I like for certain things, and further install the textures to my liking. So what that means is while I may like HQ Snow, I will not let it overwrite 2K Road Snow Footprints, or while I like Bellyache's dragon textures, I'll use a different one for Alduin; stuff like that. 2K Road Snow Footprints Ahzidal Dukaan Zahkriisos Retexture aMidianBorn Book of Silence Alternative Rock and Mountains Automatic Variants (Benjamin318s Automatic Variants ; Heart of the Beast) Bellyaches New Dragon Species Daedric Armor and weapon Improvement (I personally like using the non-glowing meshes from this + Glorious Daedric Armor, but not always) Dawnguard Rewritten - Arvak Designs of the Nords No Dragon LODs (my mod actually and not a texture lol; it keeps those awful LOD mesh+texture dragon things from showing up so if you like fighting dragons a lot I do recommend it) Dust Effects Enhanced Blood Textures Enhanced HD Dragon Bones Ethereal Cosmos Glorious Daedric Retexture Glowing Ore Veins 300 (not a texture but) Grass on Steroids (again not a texture, but will help performance while making grass more awesome) HD Soul Gems HD Steel Crossbows (Pine) Heart of the Beast Hectrol CAVES DELUXE HighRes Retex Hectrol SPIDER WEBS Deluxe HighRes Retex HQ Snow Textures IMAGINATOR +MCMenu (not a texture but) Miraak Remake HD Nightingale Prime HD Noldorian Auriels Bow and Quiver Noldorian Auriels Shield Pure Waters (I like the texture pack for areas near/in water) Real Glaciers V2 Realistic Sun for Climates of Tamriel and Vanilla Realistic Water Two (textures plus other stuff) Skyrim Flora Overhaul (can be mainly better textures/meshes or the entire overhaul) Skyrim HD Environments Skyrim Performance PLUS (super low res textures for Pine Needles, Rainfall, Snowfall, and Aspen Leaves so you don't get FPS stuttering from things you barely notice) Skyrim Ultra HD Texture Pack Static Mesh Improvement Mod - SMIM (meshes+textures) Sunhallowed Quiver Remix The World Eater - An Alduin Retexture Thieves Guild Armor_Denim Style HQ and Logo SoA I hope you don't mind my suggesting of mods that aren't purely textures; it was only because I thought you might like them or they'd help you find something you'd like. Hope I haven't overwhelmed you. xD And if you're interested, I have a list of mods I may or may not use but probably have recently here. http://onestupidadventurer.tumblr.com/mods Also, to help keep that issue of running out of memory from happening with retextures, try Safety Load. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/46465/? Glanzer
The absolute best texture mod is actually the Texture Pack Combiner (TPC). It's not really a texture mod by itself, it helps you to combine the best textures from dozens of different mods. You'll need to use both the TPC and SkyrimTPC to get the latest updates. The SkryimTPC will also optimize the textures using DDSOpt and can optionally create an NMM compatible file for loading the single mod it creates from all the other mods. hisstoryman
I have tried a few, but with my graphics card beginning to show its age my continued use of them has been limited, Some of them have turned Skyrim into Myst ( wow am I giving away my age with that reference). I have been using lighter ones, so if your machine is like mine:I cant believe its not ENB http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/48554/?Ultra Realistic World Lighting http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/13531/?Static Mesh Improvement Mod - SMIMhttp://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/8655/?FXAA Post Process INjector http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/131/?
