Oruboris
You do know how to use the compass hints, right? The programmers had the choice as to whether to try to spell out every possibilty, give you all the info you need for a quest from talking to NPCs, or to offer a 'hint' function of some kind. Though a lot of people complain about it, I think the hint function they invented is quite ingenious: easy to use when you need it, easy to ignore when you don't. Open your inventory or journal screen. Across the bottom are 4 icons: Bars for your personal status, a weapon for physical inventory, a spell icon for magic inventory, and a compass-- the only one with letters, bottom right corner of the journal menu. Click the compass, and you get 5 new options: a drawing compass shows your local map, 4 pointed star [actually called a compass rose] for the world map, hand holding a chalice, a single chalice, and 3 stacked chalices. The hand holding a chalice is your active quest. If you have none selected, this will be empty when you click it. The single chalice is quests you have received but not finished. Clicking any of these makes it the active quest. The stacked chalices are quests you've completed. When you make a quest active, you get a marker on your map showing you where to go next. If the marker is green, you and the person/thing you need next are in the same game space [iE, you can walk there without a load screen interuption. If the marker is pink, you go this direction, and through the door/gate marked. Once the quest is marked active, the markers will appear on your maps as well as the compass readout at the center bottom of the ingame screen. On the world map, the marker may well be in a completely different city than you were expecting-- I'm always forgetting where I'm supposed to go. On the local map, it can appear in a dark space you haven't explored yet, so work your way that direction. On the gamescreen, it will mark that person/place/thing you need next, not the route you need to take. It marks the next door/gate you need, but not how to get to it. In some dungeons, the marker will seem to point to a blank wall. If there isn't a secret door there, it means the spot you need is either directly above or below where you are looking. You don't have to follow it like a slave, you can work on any quest you like, not just the active one. But if you get stuck, can't find the object/person you are looking for, make that the active quest and you will almost always get a pointer to help you find your way. In your particular case, I think you'll find Martin is just down the hill in the refugee camp. But now that you know how to use the compass markers, you won't have to wait for someone to give you a nudge next time you get stuck...
