FCOM Install

Recommended Posts

I decided to install FCOM on a clean installation of Oblivion (+knights +SI). I followed the directions found here. At first, it caused Oblivion to crash at startup; I fixed this by removing two of the Harvest mods that referred to things I didnt have installed. After figuring this out, and getting the whole thing to work, I was feeling pretty good about myself: after 6ish hours of work, I was finally ready to play! I started a new character, and got about 2 minutes into the game before I realized that some of the words were in German. It only happened in some very specific places, however:

  • The axe skill, and axe items
  • The healing skill, and the healing spell you start out with
  • The description of a Chameleon Scroll
  • Messages telling me that I gained levels in skills

All other scrolls, messages, and items, as far as I could tell, were in English. Any ideas on which mod is causing this? I could go through mod-by-mod creating new characters and checking, like I went mod-by-mod to see which was causing the crashes, but I'd rather ask around here to see if any similar problems have happened. It isn't like its a horrible problem, as the game is still playable and I can get the gist of most of the foreign text, but it is definitely annoying. Here's a screenshot of which mods I had running at the time of the problem:

I tried re-installing the patch, to no effect. As for trying FormID, I can't get it to work. I installed OBSE v0016, and ran Oblivion through it after installing FormID's meshes/textures/.esp. I have the three FormID spells, but when I use them (I've tried with all three, using the directions in the read me) there is no message about the item/spell I'm using it on. Any ideas why it wouldn't be working?

Have you tried looking in the console for the messages?

To open the console, press the Tilde (~) key, between TAB and Esc. If you don't see anything there, the problem might be a bad installation.

If you downloaded v3.0, you need OBSE v17.

If you downloaded v2.7, you also need Pluggy v75 or later. v91 or v125b should be fine.

If neither of these two suggestions help you, I have one more suggestion which will probably solve your problem.
