Falconkaji
Don't use any LOD mods, just the noise file from the 1.2 patch. Anyway, I fixed Kvatch. I deactivated a mod called "Real Light" (optional part of all natural) and I got a 15 or so FPS gain in Kvatch. The reason I didnt know to do this when I ran oblivion full vanilla earlier was because I only tested the scenario in front of Weynon, and I'm still getting lag there. When I face Jauffre and Martin on their horses, I still shoot down to about 25 from 50-60 before. However, something I forgot about is I'm using a head mesh replacement known as throttlekitty's Head06. It looks far better than the vanilla head mesh which implies it has a high polygon count. Could this have anything to do with the fps hit when facing 2-4 actors? The updated head matches the quality of something from a dx10 game, but like I said before, I play those at 60-70 fps consistently with AA and AF. BossDweebe
I don't think the heads should be a problem on your system. TK is a pro modder so I don't think there is anything about the mod specifically. I almost asked about any Kvatch mods yesterday, but when you mentioned lit torches.... I should have asked earlier. Is your game patched to 1.2.0416 ?You have the Vista security issue sorted out ? I forget what it's called I'm on XP. So if you are sure your system is sorted out then you just have to keep on the path you are now with the mod trouble shooting. I don't know if you have done this - When un-installing the mods it is best to open a copy of the mod you are doing so you are sure to find all the files in your Oblivion game. Some files, if left behind, can still act as replacers even if the esp is deactivated and removed. If all else fails, and no one else comes to help - it's reinstall time. bbens reinstall guide is at http://s1.zetaboards.com/TheStormRavenLibrary/forum/256092/ Once again it's no good comparing with other games. Oblivion, if I have it right, has stuff going on in the background all the time. The NPC's actually go about their business even if you are not in the cell with them. Most machine couldn't even run Oblivion at full tilt when it came out.If it were done again today they would probably have it as good, or better, with less machine stress. Falconkaji
Yeah, game is patched. I disabled User Account Control if thats what you're talking about. Thing is, I just reinstalled oblivion a few days ago. I read the tweakguides and enabled all of the multicore CPU tweaks, still no improvement. Used my gfx driver software to enable a bunch of performance options, still nothing. I did notice something though - my companion (I use CM companions) always subtracts 5-8 fps whenever I have her in my screen. I'd imagine this is because of the companion script with the companion sound set script added on top of that? I don't know. Framerate is okay more or less. I'd really like to be able to play at 40+ constantly, but that probably isn't gonna happen. I'd still like to know what the deal is with torches though. I'm going to try that mod that stops light from flickering and see what that does. What do you think, though? I think with my specs I SHOULD be able to play the game at 40+, am I overestimating my parts?
BossDweebe
I don't really know about your systems potential. I think I only get about 25 average. You will get big dips when entering new cells, especially if traveling on a fast horse.I have only checked frame rates once or twice, when I was having problems. I just play the game, and if it looks good and runs well I'm happy. Some stuttering on horseback I can live with. I think the tweak guide mentions the difficulty in getting rid of stutter all together.I get a bit of lag when I fast travel, but it smooths out once things finish loading, and multiple NPC's are no problem once the load is finished either. Just remember - the more hi-res stuff you add the more tax you will pay. When you say you reinstalled only a few days ago are you talking about a second time onyour new machine or reinstalled, but first time on your new machine ?If this is a second install you really should look at bbens guide, and I just read a few days agothat if there is an interruption in the install you will get some problems. This refers to a lag at the endof the installation during which some things are being written to registry. Apparently you can cut in onthis thinking the install has finished. It's not something I had noticed before (The lag). If you want to stop the torch flickering turning off the HDR may help. If you are enabling AA in the gfx control panel don't do it with the in game settings.
