Chaosblade02
I just picked up this game a few weeks ago sitting on a video store rack. Its called Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken land for the PS2. In many ways this seems like an old school D&D game, has that sorta feel it. There basically isn't really much of a storyline to it, but there is a single dungeon you explore with about 12 floors to it, and there are side quests you can pick up in the bar from people, usually want you to find an item or something like that and bring it back for a reward. 12 floors doesn't sound like much, but the game is brutally challenging, and you have to take your sweet time going down. The interesting thing about this game is it is a turn based system, but they added a strategic way to fight your enemies, called allied actions, at first they might seem kinda cheap when you first get them, but they are absolutely needed to survive in the dungeon, one example is a restrict shot which protects 2 frontline fighters from physical attacks, but they still might attack the guy not guarded by this, or may use a spell or breath attack which are not protected by this. Many enemies also have a fairly high chance to do a kill on strike, which means even if you have high defense you better use restrict shot or face random deaths. Enemy groups come in as many as 16-20 enemies sometimes, and if you get back attacked it will almost always result in a team wipe, this happens sometimes and its unavoidable. Some of you older gamers might enjoy this game because it is reminiscent of an older style RPG. There are also several different character classes, the starting classes are Warrior, Sorcerer, Priest, thief. Later on at the guide hall you can move up to Knight, Samurai, Ninja or Bishop, the classes have certain requirements, like alignment you can be Good, Neutral or Evil, and certain level requirements as well as a certain number in stats. After a certain point you can also make your own characters, name them, set their alignment etc. But some characters join you automatically.
