Callighan
So, do you think modding with FOSE is preferable than vanilla scripts?I'm working on an update of my Mind Blast Mod and I find that vanilla script commands are preventing me from implementing a variety of things. I've seen what the FOSE can do and I'm somewhat attracted to its capabilities. But on the other hand, I'm under the assumption that by not using FOSE, I would be able to maximise compatibility to players who don't install FOSE. So here's the rub;If you guys use FOSE, could you please share your thoughts on whether it's preferable to use FOSE or not. And does requiring FOSE have an impact on your mod users? I understand that some players don't have the know how or are apprehensive in setting FOSE up. Thanks beforehand.
ACrazyGerman
I don't use any mods that use FOSE, just because I don't want more stuff that could possibly lead to more crashes. I just feel it would add a whole new area that could mess up. Just my thoughts.
Callighan
I hear you. I understand FOSE has issues with the Steam and Direct2Drive versions of Fallout 3, as well as issues with Games For Windows Live.

What if I need to use commands such as GetKeyPress or IsKeyPressed? Is there a workaround in vanilla scripts?
Michlo
I've been enjoying FOSE since Oblivion. Many of the more expansive mods utilize it and I've had no problems. I'm very appreciative of the folks behind FOSE. So FOSE all the way for me. If you're modding, though, then surely the question would be "am I able to accomplish what I would like to with the vanilla scripts?". Good luck! :) Cheers. Callighan
If you're modding, though, then surely the question would be "am I able to accomplish what I would like to with the vanilla scripts?". Right.Judging from the quality of mods that use FOSE, I think it's a powerful tool indeed.
mechine
FOSE is great, are you kidding? Most of the mods that use FOSE also build in back doors for non-FOSE playerswork arounds or items an what not. For compatibility to players, which is kind of your question. Some of them have both built into one mod, or seperate downloads. I haven't had any problems with FOSE besides finding the right version to use. FOSE disables LIVE which is good enough for me to use it all the time, besides the awesome pandora's box FOSE opens up for the simulation. I vote FOSE FTW! Callighan
Most of the mods that use FOSE also build in back doors for non-FOSE playerswork arounds or items an what not. For compatibility to players, which is kind of your question. Right. So it's better to make two versions; one FOSE and one non FOSE. The foreseeable problem would be whether the non FOSE version would have the same features of the FOSE version. Anyhow, looks like FOSE is the way to go for now. Its installation is seamless and unproblematic. The only current problem is that FOSE version 1.1 beta 6 is not compatible with GECK updated to 1.5.
