I broke the thievs guild questline

There's this hit-n-miss bug that can prevent the thieves guild questline from advancing if you sell too much stuff to your fence, too early. I've got away with it before, but this time it's bitten me in the bum.

So S'kriva won't give me the 'Misdirection' quest. When I spoke to a beggar, 'S'kriva' was one of her dialogs, when activated she repeated the 'where to find her' bit, and 'Misdirection' showed up in my open quests. But S'kriva still won't talk about it, and I can't leap ahead by talking to Methedrel, your co-ordinator for this job [iIRC]. The waterfront isn't on lockdown, and Lex is just being Lex.

I'd loose a lot of hours if I have to go back to a point before the sale, and I've covered that part of the game so much [due to a bad computer crash] that I'd be more than a little tempted to just pack it in.

To make matters even worse, I'm running Vista, so the tilde key isn't available, can't activate the console. I'm pretty sure there's a mod that gives you a ring for that, though I haven't tracked it down yet.

Any advice?

Thanks for the link: since I haven't been able to access the console in the past, I have no idea how it works: can someone tell me what to type to get this quest going?

I don't think the unofficial patch helps this issue: I have it, and I think its working. But I was playing Oblivion when I had my massive crash, and some of the game may have gone missing. Oddly, I have to be logged on to my system from the damaged User account in order to play. Won't launch from the new UA...

Here you will find a guide for almost all things related to the game.

Here is the quest you're looking for

You should use the console command setstage TG05Misdirection # . Where # you should put the quest stage (there's a Journal Entries list at the bottom of the page).

As far as the console/tilde key not working you can fix that!!!

1. Go into Device Manager -> Keyboards.

2. Right-click "Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard", choose "Update Driver" ("Update Driver Software" on Vista).

3. Choose "Browse my computer for software" (XP users tell it not to install automatically and say you'll specify the location, then when it asks you where you would like it to search for drivers choose the option to choose from a list) then "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer".

4. Make sure "show compatible hardware" is checked, then select "HID-compliant device" and click next. Click any remaining "OK" or "Finish" buttons after Windows has installed the driver.
