Basic character texture swapping

I am assuming the lower half is cut off in the Demon photo

The Xi is on the right, demon on the left. Xi has seperate tex files for upper body, lower body, and feet

It is getting more complicated. I don't have either mod, but the red (Daemon ?)

is RT for sure. You reckon the XI uses the same mesh. If so then open it in NifScope

and see if you can reassign the various parts of the body to Xi. I should have realized

the grey was XI.

Another thought -

The Daemon may be built on a full body instead of separate parts(upperbody , lowerbody, etc)

If this is the case then you will be OK as you will be able to assign Slof's different textures to the

relevant places on the Daemon mesh.

The mesh is what is read in the esp, so as long as the mesh name stays the same you should

be OK.

EDIT: And I should have address the eye situation early on as well.

Anyway you've learned a few new tricks....

Messed up eyes come from too many cosmetic mods or too many custom race mods

Like I have mentioned in many threads before: I have installed Vanilla Oblivion, Robert Male (w/o BP), CM Partners, then this demon race.

@ BossDweebe: I'm trying to install the Demon tex to Xi. Do I have to cut up the texture and assign each one for a diff Xi mesh or something?

Ok - Back to square one. Xi to Demon - Demon to Xi - The principles are the same.

Install Slof's Xi if you haven't. Play test it and see how things go.

Then do the texture thing using information already received, and see what you get.

keep backups as you go.

I mentioned renaming dds files. That is not actually necessary with a race/companion mod.

(it is necessary to have the file names original if they are use as a replacer as I mentioned in my first post)

The main thing is that the Mesh keeps the same name that came with whatever esp you are using.

I don't think doing what you want to do will fix the eyes, however.

Look again, and I mean really look, at the installation. Compare the game folders with

the mod folders. Don't assume anything is correct.

One more question - Are you launching the game with OBSE ?

Yep.

Replacing these files are done normally right, and not in TES?

Not sure what you mean

If you are going to install Slof's Xi, no you do not need CS (is that what you are refering to as TES ?)

Just install the mod normally and activate.

You can make changes to the mesh and it's texture pathing , and you can swap dds files without CS.

as long as you stay true to the naming conventions used by the mod in question when you save the mesh.

You only need CS if you are altering or making a new esp. (mod).

EDIT: Said about all I can - Start experimenting with what you have....Have fun...

How do I go about assigning these textures, meshes, to esp? This is a little complicated. Sorry to be such a newb but seriously Tes should have a chat on IRC or something. I'm getting tired in which will soon turn to frusteration, and then eventually failure. I havn't even touched the folders yet in which the Xi and Demon are set up totally different from eachother. The Xi is set up as an actual race, and the demon is set up like an object (not even in the character folder). Perhaps I can think clearer tomorrow. Thank you for helping me so much! I give you much kudos for this my friend.

Back just one more time.

If you are wanting to play as the Demon character then the mod has to be set up

as a playable character. It may only come as a companion. The same is

true with Xi. As I have neither I don't know how they are configured.

This can be changed in CS. I'm not going hunting for it now, but there is a tab that allows you

to make a character/race playable.

Many mods come in their own folder. This is not a problem. The esp knows where to find it.

Once again play with both in NifScope before you worry about using CS.

Again I will stress - make good and sure you have the mod installed correctly. Get the folders

in the game in the same place they are in the mod. If the Demon is - Data/Meshes/Demon then that

is where it belongs.

If I was not clear enough before, I will mention - it does not matter what mesh (There is a qualifier below),

and texture you use in the mod as long as the name of the mesh stays the same as the original,

but as I mentioned, one of the mods may use a full body model and the other the traditional four part.

The four parts can be combined in NifScope. This would be necessary if you want to use the esp from the mod

that has the single mesh. Otherwise your character may end up with only an upperbody and arms. Of course the reverse applies if you want the other combination. You can "disassemble" the full body.

btw- the mesh whether combined into a full body or not is Roberts. The textures are from the mods authors.

So in the end we have an academic exercise in mixing and matching that will probably not fix the eye problem.

For more on how to use NifScope get my "NPC Clothing and Armour Sampler Vol 2". It's in the latest

files. (page 4 today so I may be pushed off by tomorrow.)

EDIT: I still think you have installed incorrectly. I just looked at the download page, and with over 6,000

downloads the Avenger must have it right, but just reading the description I am guessing he is only a companion.

Still, have a play with what you've been told. It will be a good experience....

Stay calm, go slow.... Explore and experiment.
