Menu/Inventory crashing.

So I've been getting random crashes when opening inventories and sometimes menus.

Most recently those 2 kids in the Reach had that Dwemer item and I asked to barter with them and I crashed when opening the menu. The previous crash was opening a pot next to a fireplace.

The last time I crashed in a menu (like journal, map, system menu, etc.) was when I started Skyrim, went through a few doors in Riften, Ratway, Guild, Then back to Riften. I crashed when pressing the journal hotkey 'J'.

So could I get some help with this?

I've managed to remove all my other problems with memory but this one just eludes me.

What I've done so far that I remember:

  • Various .ini tweaks
  • Load order.
  • Sound fix, 41something hz thing.
  • Ticked "App can handle >2gb address space" in CFFExplorer.
  • Bashed Patch.
  • Cleaning .esp files with TES5Edit.
  • FNIS (Helps with Dawnguard and Dragonborn in my previous experiences)
  • Various ENBseries config changes.
  • CellStabilizer.dll
  • SafetyLoad.dll
  • Updating/removing mods that alter menus.
  • Clean install.

My CPU: Intel Core i7-2600k 3.4ghz (4 cores, 8 threads)

My GPU: Asus Nvidia Geforce GTX Titan 6gb

Bumping this! I get crashes on inventory all the time.
Thought it might have been due to Better Sorting, but removing that (and even starting a new game with it disabled) has still proven fruitless.
I don't see a pattern to it.
I just got to Dragonsreach, and I've noticed that whenever I navigate to the Misc tab of my inventory (with SkyUI) I crash. This also happened when I tried to disenchant at the Dragonsreach Enchanting Table.
BUT, I've disenchanted elsewhere and can access my misc tab in other cells.

I dunno, I'm beat. It's very annoying though, nothing sucks more than not being able to loot your enemies because the area you're in is a grey zone and results in inventory crashes.

Update:
Okay, well, I disabled my ENB, then tried again. No luck.

Then, I exiting the cell back to Whiterun, dropping the torch out my inventory, re entering the cell, and I managed to get through all inventories cycling through all items flawlessly without crashing. That includes map and skill trees.
I also tested the enchanting table and that worked out well too.

So, it could now either be one of two things:
1) I have to uninstall my torch mods
2) Re entering the cell fixed the problem.

Testing now. If it's the latter, then hopefully a fix will be typing 'pcb' into the console before accessing your inventory, which should hopefully purge the cell and make it 'fresh'.

I'll report back!

Okie dokie.
I uninstalled New Thinner Torch, and Smoking Torches, and wa-la! All crashing gone!

I recommend you try the same if you have those installed.
I'm too lazy to find out which of those two mods is the culprit. I hope you actually read this and I hope this clears up your problem.

There are two other fixes to inventory crashes that you could also try OP. If you ever had a version of Skyui prior to 3 (I think) installed and you never properly uninstalled it before upgrading to a new version you can experience inventory crashes. So you could look for those old skyui files and erase them or clean reinstall. Also deleting the inventorymenu.swf in your interface folder sometimes fixes inventory menus crashes. The game should regenerate this file for you, but back it up just in case before deleting it.

If you're using the Safety Load SKSE plugin, you'll want to open SafetyLoad.ini (in Data/SKSE/Plugins). There should be a line labeled

EnableOnlyLoading = false

Replace that with:

EnableOnlyLoading = true

That stops Safety Load from causing menu crashes.
