custom rig/skeleton for Fallout3

i've figured out how to get custom creatures in-game, including skinning with Bethesda's skeletons etc, and i also implemented changing the animations that come with fo3.

the next thing i'm trying to do is get my custom skeleton for the character/creature to work in the game.

i made a basic tripod creature, and set up a few bones, and made it walk in 3dsmax

when i export to Nifskope, the rotation axes get messed up for some reason.

anybody have suggestions? have any of you done this before?
