Very irritating issue..

So.. first, I started having random crashes once I arrived in Denerim to do the companion quest for Leliana. Mind you, this is the first time I've been in Denerim on this playthrough. My game was having absolutely no problems before this. Yes, I've followed all suggestions used in the thread about Denerim Market crashes, as well as crashing at specific points.

Now, when I try to load up DA:O UE, it just keeps pulling the Launcher up, over and over. No idea what's causing this.

I should make it known that I'm running the game through Steam, as I acquired it again during its recent sale of the package game.

Any suggestions or ideas as to what is preventing my game from even loading now? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Mods I'm using:

Dragon Age Redesigned (Most Recent)

Tucked Hair

Improved Atmosphere

Stand-Alone Module Stories (FoF, Broken City, Classic Week; which shouldn't conflict at all)

Gray Wardens of Ferelden

Dacomies Texture thing (always forget the name; comes pre-downloaded with Dragon Age Redesigned).

I've disabled IA, toned video settings down completely, etc etc.. still nothing.

Ok, let's see here...

1) The Denerim Market is the most crash-prone part of the game.

2) Dracomies Textures place a lot of strain on most "average" systems.
3) IA is a great mod that is known to cause tremendous problems when used with other mods.

4) Disabling and/or uninstalling IA doesn't necessarily fix the problems, due to the nature of the changes it makes in core game files.

5) You don't say what your tech specs (specifically your gpu) might be, or if you've installed the 1.05 patch.

My generic advice would be to disable/remove the textures, apply the 1.05 patch, and try loading a save from before entering the Market.

6) I never use Steam if I can avoid it. In this case, I'd consider a full un-/re-install through EA/Origin (keeping your saves and mods, of course). Your product code is valid, so there's no charge to obtain the game that way.

Okay, so.. I had to completely uninstall Steam in order to remove DA:O UE from my computer to do a fresh install using the Origin Client (don't ask me why, Uninstall was greyed out). I'm going to assume that downloading via the Origin Client will automatically put me up to the 1.05 patch? If not, then I'm sure I can find the patch by simply doing a google search, and using my head when it comes to trusting the site that's offering it.

As for computer technical specifications:

Acer Aspire V3-551G-X419

AMD Quad-Core Processor A10-4600M with Turbo CORE Technology up to 3.20 GHz

AMD Radeon HD 7660G +7670M with 2 GB Dedicated VRAM

15.6" HD LED LCD

6 GB DDR3 Memory

750 GB HDD

Yes, it's a laptop, but it's an Acer laptop designed for gaming, and I can run Crysis on good settings with no problems, so I know Dragon Age: Origins and; as of this weekend; Dragon Age II should run perfectly fine on this thing.

a) Problems uninstalling a game under Steam are between you and Valve. Got nothing to do with EA, Origin, or DA:O.

b) Official site for DAO patches is here: Dragon Age: Origins Patches.

c) Saying something like "I can run Crysis on good settings with no problems" is meaningless. The game engines are completely different, and the behaviour of one on any given rig does not in any way indicate the behaviour of the other.

See also other technical information such as this article from Notebook Check:

The AMD Radeon HD 7660G + HD 7670M Dual Graphics is the combination of a integrated AMD Radeon 7660G APU processor graphics card and a dedicated entry level AMD Radeon HD 7670M graphics card in CrossFire combination. It is called AMD Dual Graphics or asymmetric CrossFire and uses AFR (Alternate Frame Rendering) to render different frames on the two graphic cores. Therefore the combination also suffers from micro stuttering (different spaces between two images lead to stuttering although the framerate is high enough for fluent gaming with only one GPU).

The performance of the Dual Graphics solution depends greatly on the driver support for the used games. In some games the performance may even degrade by 10-15% compared to using only the APU graphics card. Only in best case scenarios is the performance of a GT 640M possible. Therefore, due to the micro stuttering and performance problems, Dual Graphics may impose more problems than bring performance gains.

d) As I mentioned earlier, IA and Dracomies True Textures are the two mods in your list that I would avoid if I were having these problems.

1.) I didn't point fingers at any company when stating the problems with the uninstall and fresh re-install.. merely stated that was what I had to do, and didn't know why. Thanks.

2.) I managed to track down the 1.05 patch, and that's what my Origins is currently sitting at.

3.) It isn't necessarily "meaningless" (thanks for the constructive assistance, by the way) in regards to graphics processor output. In regards to individual games themselves, as referenced quite adamantly in specific areas of your message from the Technical Information, that part I understand entirely, and hadn't considered. It makes complete sense, considering DA:O was made on a shoddy at best, and very glitchy and buggy engine, as made evident by patches released further messing things up and causing stability issues (multiple sources of information simply from google searching "Dragon Age: Origins patch stability issues").

4.) I've removed every single mod from the game now, except for the Official BioWare add-ons and DLCs that came with the Ultimate Edition, and that was through yet another completely fresh uninstall/reinstall of the game. Naturally, my previous save file was completely corrupted, so I had to start fresh due to the reliance that my old save file had for the mods that I started it with.

Now I have another problem. It's completely unplayable. I get to the Dead Trenches in the Deep Roads pursuing Branka, and as soon as I load in to the area, I crash. It's done it over 30 times now (yes, over 30.. I counted and stopped there). All of this with multiple resolution, windowed, graphics drops, etc. settings.

I love the Dragon Age series, and have been dying (no, not literally) to get my hands on; and play, the PC versions of both of them. I have absolutely no problems with Dragon Age 2 (also obtained via the Origin Client), no matter how long I have it running. But when I spend money on something, that is ultimately broken.. it tends to irritate the living hell out of me. Furthermore, when I attempt to ask for assistance, and I get responses coming off as quite snarky and make it seem like I have no knowledge of anything tech related, on top of previously already being annoyed, tends to really rub me the wrong way.

I came to Technical Support because of the overwhelming amount of people in this community that genuinely try to assist with peoples' problems, and demonstrate high levels of patience, no matter how long it takes to help someone figure something out, because that's what they truly want to do. I didn't come to Technical Support, to feel like I was being talked to like I'm a 5 year old, and have words get put in my mouth.

If none of the above is true, then I apologize. However, I would recommend reading over the way things are typed once again, and decide for yourself if it sounds a little rude.

That being said, I've enjoyed my time here and Nexus Mods, and found a lot of creations from the extremely talented people here that are simply breath-taking. I wish everyone well, and best of luck on future endeavors.

P.S. I state the above, as I'm fully aware that I basically just ripped back in to a Moderator of these forums, and quite possibly with get my account locked, or banned, because Moderators are never permitted to be countered. Or I'll get a message sent to me privately. I just won't sit here and let someone talk to me like I'm an idiot, when all I'm simply asking for is assistance.

Happy Modding, everyone!

You won't get your account locked, or banned, or whatever. But when you say things like "I can play Crysis on good settings with no problems." it demonstrates that you have little-to-no understanding of how these things work. Compounding that with an incredibly naïve declaration on the quality of the Eclipse game engine, (given your obvious level of technical knowledge) and that's why you get talked to like a five year-old.

You're the one who claims that because your rig could run Crysis, you "know" that Dragon Age: Origins should run perfectly fine.

Question: Have you tried disabling the dual part of the AMD Dual Graphics and using just one GPU?

As discussed in the linked article, in this situation performance with any specific game is far more dependent on the GPU maker's driver than is normal. If it's AMD's dual-mode driver that's the problem, not much anyone else can do about it...
