OOO and bashing locks: I'm losing my mind...

What, precisely, is the point of being able to bash open chests, and not doors? I'm in Vilverin, can't bash open any chests because something somewhere knows I exist, probably the skeletons in the locked rooms further on. So I go to kill the skeletons only to realize that I can't bash open locked doors. I'm not even given the option.

So here's my questions. What is the purpose of being able to bash open locks on chests and not doors? Why can't I swing a weapon at a lock just because a mob locked in a room an acre away is still walking around? Why bash at all if you have to learn to pick locks anyway, and save the wear on your weapon (which is a ridiculous amount of wear for a friggin lock) if you can't even do it unless everything is dead?

Or perhaps the real question... does anyone know if there is a mod out there that will allow you to bash door locks as well? Otherwise I'll have to give up on OOO altogether since Oscuro's idea of "harder" seems to be "Let's see if I can just piss people off enough to give up on this mod entirely".

As a mage, I can walk through a dungeon with no fear whatsoever of being hurt, but as a warrior it's a struggle just to get out alive most times.

So please... if there is a mod that allows bashing of door locks or lets you bash a chest lock in real time, please let me know.

Because locks on doors are usually part of the door, while on chests it's usually something outside.

But really, it's probably because bashing doors made it too easy to access areas that you shouldn't be getting access to yet just for having high strength. Or because trying to script this would require either scripting each and every door in the game special, or running several OBSE scripts constantly to check if the player is attempting to open a locked door with weapon out.

After reviewing the mod this was taken from, doors were supposed to be bashable anyway. Why that feature was removed I will never know. I turned off the "no combat" portion of it, which should have allowed me to bash regardless of combat, but it disabled lock bashing altogether.

I guess my only recourse is to thank Oscuro for breaking this particular feature in his attempt to perfect it, and uninstall OOO as it only causes more trouble than it is worth.

That hard to learn a little bit of security skill, or use console to unlock those few doors you don't get keys for, but need to enter? really?

I appreciate the snottiness of your reply, but I don't want to believe that's all you're capable of. Next time, surprise me with a coherent AND helpful response.

Now, to answer your question: It's not a matter of not wanting to raise my security skill. I don't think it should be necessary to use console commands for anything that should be possible with game mechanics, first off. Console commands are lazy and pointless in my opinion. However, I downloaded OOO for a more challenging and interesting game experience and so far it has lived up to that expectation. My problem was that I feel bashing open door locks would easily fit the theme of the character I'm playing, but that particular feature was disabled by the programmers of OOO and I was looking for a way to make it possible. If there isn't a way to do so, I suppose I'll have to find a way around it. Security skill training and the Skeleton Key is the only way, it seems. I will live with that if I must.

Next time, maybe you'll be a little less snide and a bit more constructive in your replies.
