Winrar probably automatically associates rar files, and 7-zip automatically associates 7z files. but you may have to associate rar to get them to work with 7-zip. or you may have to associate 7z to get them to work with winrar. Or you can just use both. However, while 7-Zip is entirely free. Winrar is not. It is try before you buy and will start putting up a nag screen asking you to pay for it after a while.
