Trouble when generating LOD

Recommended Posts

1. These tutorials all look good. What you could also do is just try to generate everything through xLODgen directly without any other fancy additions or mod managers and just see what happens. Also make sure to delete your old LOD files(both mehses/texutres) before replacing them with newly generated ones, since I'm not sure if they can somehow mess with each other. It's also worth remembering that xLODGen can f*#@ up at times and you might need to run through the whole process again at times.

2. Building your worldspace and only generating LOD once it's finished usually leads to a lot of problems. As you've experienced so far it's vital to take LOD into account when it comes to your overall composition and "luring" the player to interesting places. I would recommend to generate LOD at least every 1-2 days, when working on your mod, in the beginning to learn more about LOD meshes. It's a super simple and quick process with xLODgen and you're gonna get used to it quite quickly. This will also make sure that you hopefully won't have any big holes in your buildings or landscape in the end.

I got mine from the Fallout 4 archive files. It's pretty much just the renamed lod settings file of the commonwealth. You just need to extract it, rename it and then put it into the right place. The original xLODGen instructions list this step on their forum where they also provide the links to the most recent version of the tool and where you can speak directly with some of the devs. I highly recommend following what they recommend. Other than that I suppose that the CK itself probably generates such a file when you use the CK for LOD generation. I never really did that though, since the CK is super slow and prone to crash and you need to prepare a lot of things to be able to generate LOD with it.
