My idea is to have upgradable turrets that require more parts for every upgrade and more energy to keep running for every upgrade. But other than that unlimited scalable if you have the parts and energy to keep it running. No models needed if vanilla game models are used. Probably would just need a interface, damage modify, someway to remember what turret has what level upgrade, but I don't know anything about modding, so it is just a guess.
