General BIG Mod Problems

I'm really having trouble with my mods at the moment. I've got lots - mainly armour ones and thats where the problem lies.

Most of my mods, purely and simply, aren't functioning. For example, the Dreadweave armour from the Dreadweave complete mod fails to show up at all. The book for "lost paladins of the divines" is also not there. Saurons Armour chest is not there either(to name a few).

And then, I get some armours being strangely purple coloured, and when i put them on my entire body apart from my head vanishes from my view (which goes bald).

And then, even more queerly, i get some which work a charm like The Lost Spires and multiple body replacers.

I have installed the Unofficial Oblivion patch, and that solved most problems but made the grass turn to a purple tiling with a map of the Imperial city on it.

I've tried reinstalling oblivion and using archive invalidation invalidated, but neither worked.

Patch 1.2.416 failed as well.

A final note is that i DONT use OBMM. I installed oblivion to my documents as one of the thousands of things i read and tried to do to sort it out, but this means OBMM doesnt like it and wont let me install it there. And i dont know how to install it manually, or if it would even help at all.

Sorry of this is glaringly obvious..

:thanks:

Where did you read that you should install Oblivion to your My Documents folder ?

Oblivion puts a folder in My Documents/My Games that holds the ini and saves,

but generally it is best to install Oblivion anywhere but Program Files, and I would also think

My Documents.

I what way did the patch fail ?

If you HD has only one partition then make a new folder called Games, or

something you like, and install it there. If you have more than one partition install Oblivion

to a partition that windows is not installed to.

In most cases purple or black indicate missing textures. A yellow marker or something missing

totally - invisible - indicates a missing mesh. In both cases it means a mod, of mods, has been

installed incorrectly.

Often what happens is if a mesh/texture or folder is dragged and dropped from one place to another

in the folder tree the file will miss and end up in either the folder above or below the target folder.

Are you using Vista ? Is the UAC turned off ?

btw - you really do need OBMM it does much more than just archive invalidation.

If you don't use OBMM, then how are you changing your load order?

OBMM is one of those must have additions to Oblivion when you use mods.

Normally it is installed in the same folder as The game, C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks

If you installed oblivion in a different folder, install OBMM in the same one.

Re: Patching

If you got your game through a download such as D2D, You have to go to them for any patches. The ones at the official site will not work because of the D2D copy protection. Programs like OBSE will probably not work because of the D2D copy protection. If you have a pirate version, sorry about your luck. Don't be so cheap, buy the game.

If you have the Game of the Year version, you don't need a patch.

To find what version you have, look in the lower left corner on the loading screen. If it shows v1.2.0416 you already have the latest patch.

You only need to install the latest patch, v1.2.0416, all of the stuff from earlier patches are included.

If you have Shivering Isles, DO NOT use the Oblivion patch, ONLY use the latest Shivering Isles patch. All of the oblivion stuff is included. There is only one English version SI patch for both US & UK versions.

If you DO NOT have Shivering Isles, use only the latest Oblivion patch for the language version on your original install disk.

Be sure to get your patch from the official Bethesda site where they have FREE patches for every language version, There are 2 English versions, UK & US be sure to get the one that matches your disk.

Re: Purple ground

Edited 4/25/09 - added link to shaders - Thanks Qwaxalot

I believe this is caused by a group of files called shaders. These files can be different for different graphics cards. If they somehow get the wrong shaders installed one of the results is the terrain in the foreground is purple. The shader package is based on your particular graphics card and is installed when you first install Oblivion.

I have seen 4 possible fixes for this problem.

The easiest is to go into your in game menu, (esc) select video and make sure your texture size is set to large.

The second involved the textures from unique landscapes. reinstalling them fixed it.

The third is replacing the shaders, see this: http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=20348 Thanks to Qwaxalot for this tip

The shaders may be graphic card dependent, I'm not sure on this.

The fourth involves loading patches in the wrong order and the only way to fix that one is to reinstall in the right order. Note that the oblivion uninstaller leaves behind your saves, mods (data) and some entries in the Windows registry. These will still be there after you have reinstalled. So if You have a problem with a mod causing the problem or a bad save or a bad Registry entry, The problem may still be there.

My recommended uninstall and reinstall leaves you with a clean install. And your original mods and saves in a separate folder that you can put back into the new game. Or you can start over and install your mods again.

See this for my recommendation for uninstalling and reinstalling Oblivion. http://s1.zetaboards.com/TheStormRavenLibrary/topic/344290/

Please leave some feedback to let me know what works. Thanks
