Dovahkruziik Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 (edited) According to lore, Windhelm is the oldest city in Skyrim, and perhaps all of Tamriel. It sure looks old and crumbly, but it also seems incredibly small for the history that must lay behind it. A city like this, subject to eras of weathering and wars and destruction, would have been rebuilt again and again, probably on top of the ruins of the old city. The palace is one of the few original First Empire buildings, after all. And so I have begun making this vision I have of Windhelm a reality, and I 'll post some pics and commentary here, just for fun, and to keep myself motivated. If anyone finds this interesting or has feedback, then I would love to hear it! A City Upon Itself - Current Progress: I have expanded the city walls to about twice the original size. All of the layout is complete. All that is left is to clean up a few things (Beth was very corner-cutting with the meshes and collision of Windhelm.) Next will be all of the exterior clutter such as barrels, items, plants, etc. Valunstrad The residential district of Windhelm. I expanded this section north and east all the way to the mountain. It adds 8 buildings, mostly houses. The alley next to the palace needs a little work to blend in with vanilla Valunstrad. Some problems in this picture have already been fixed, most notably the huge striped wall in the back.In the east section, there is also a secret way to get around the walls where there will be a secret guild. Whether it is of assassins or theives or other things is TBD. Gray Quarter The gray quarter was expanded to 3 times its original size, stretching north to the mountain. Due to the greater exposure to the elements and the damage that causes, this section has been terraced to show just how much it has been built upon itself, and it is filled with snow. The dark elves have overrun this section of the city, with many more houses, a market, and a Guar stable. There will be many plants native to morrowind growing here. The biggest challenge I face in this section is that I have to redo the collision meshes for most of the statics in this area. I have already figured out how to cut up a static to suit my needs though. The landscape was a pain too, and I am going to try and cover up the nasty parts. http://i.imgur.com/ejtkIi8.jpg Stone Quarter This section was expanded from the market eastward all the way to the mountain. I plan to extend the market to the end in a long line as well. There are several warehouses here. This one needs the least tweaking for now, but I do need to cut a large chunk out of a wall and patch up holes in a house mesh (come on Beth!) In this area you can find a tunnel under the city, and see the ruined foundations on which the current city is built.http://i.imgur.com/vZS1viR.jpg I am also considering expanding the city across the river, like Balmora. I just see a city like this being bigger, especially since half of skyrim is migrating there for the civil war, AND many dark elves migrated there after the eruption. I will release a Beta version when I have finished all the exteriors and ironed out all of the bugs I have found. Assuming that goes well, Ill start working on interiors, then NPC's. I hope people enjoy this, but I will be working on this anyway, since I enjoy modding and creating more than I enjoy actually playing the game. Edited December 22, 2013 by Dovahkruziik
