Tank n' Spank

Ive always done the magic, stealth or combination of the two and while fun their just isn't the same ...excitment as rushing into a group of baddies swinging like a madman. With so many mods out there, im curious what some Tinmen/women preffer and what makes the mod noteworthy.

If you can find it, Duke Patricks geometry, shield tricks, momentum and jumping damage etc. Basically everything by Duke Patrick.

This makes it so that if you hit someone in the back, it deals much more damage, but same happens to you. You'll have to defend your back, use walls and stuff to your advantage, think before a fights, think during a fight, watch your guard, actually watch your guard, yes, twice.

You can knock someones shield away and stuff. Jumping down from a ledge will give you tremendous momentum damage, up to 2k extra, it goes into bullet time, heartbeat and bam, awesome kills.

However, run out of stamina and you might knock yourself out too.

He made the game go from slash until it dies, to combat that is worthy of the name combat.

If you get swarmed by wolves, it used to be no problem, now you will die if you don't protect your back. You WILL get overwhelmed just like you're supposed to.

Shield tricks allows you to knock someone's shield away and it allows for a shield rush/bash. If your momentum is high enough, tapping block right before you reach someone means you'll probably knock them over. More like a tackle really.

Another noteworthy mod is AFC2, Adrenaline Fueled Combat, this gives additional weapon attacks (more abilities for your powerattacks) and blocking reactions.

For weapons, I've always used one of two:

- Sentient Weapon v2

It's a weapon that talks with a quest, or three.

- Illithiel's soul

Smart weapon that deals optimal damage depending on the target. Hitting a daedroth? It will swap to lightning. Hitting a frost atronach? It will swap to fire.

Armours:

- I like the TEC mod, The Elder Council. It requires you wear legion armour while on duty. Be a good legionnaire and you get the more fancy version. The armour sucks (in stats, and for some people, looks too) but the mod is awesome. It kind of grows on you. I can't imagine not wearing it anymore.

- Lost Paladins of the Divines has awesome armour, KOTN too

Companions:

With FCOM and many other mods, especially with geometry, you need someone to take some of the heat off of you. One reliable companion is good. I've gotten to the point where, at level 60, with maxed skills and stuff, I might need an additional one. If I get knocked down, chances are too high I might die. (Remember that one hit in the back can be instant death)

- Cm Partners: make your own or get a nice one

- Viconia

- Valeria 2

- Neeshka if you want to go oldschool (take her healing book away)

- CSR

- etc

One more thing of interest might be WHOOSH. It allows you to slow down the game, make it slow motion. I takes up the entire Numpad but it is worth it imo.

At some point, when you're fighting with high skills and speed, stuff might be just way too fast. YOu can cut down time in half, or 20% or superslomo to 2% or lower.

Great for action screenshots too.

Wow, I found reading your reply extremely useful, Don_Zardeone. Thanks a lot. ^_^

Just one question,

I got these Duke_Patricks mods from tesnexus (iirc):

Duke_Patricks_-_Near_Miss_Magic_And_Arrow_Shots_Alert_The_Target

Duke_Patricks_Basic_Script_Effect_Silencer

Duke_Patricks_Fresh_Kills_Now_Alert_The_NPCs_Rev

Duke_Patricks_NPC_MAGIC_and_Arrows_Can_Miss_Now_Rev

And this one from a different site (can't remember where):

Duke_Patricks_SCA_style_combat_NO_RECOIL_Silver_Edition_v51

Do these include the Duke Patricks mods you've mentioned?

Hmmm, it seems they were pulled and rumour has it he'll put them all in one package at some time or add them to his finalized mods thingy.

These are the ones I have, maybe they're still out there, maybe not:

Duke_Patricks_Basic_Combat_Geometry_REV_1p6

Duke_Patricks_Momentum_Damage_And_Jump_Risk

Duke_Patricks_SCA_Shield_Tricks_1p1

I don't know if he forgot to upload them or whether he pulled them, so I don't know if I'm allowed to share them.

I don't use the SCA style combat silver edition because it did too much at once, I prefer modular stuff in combat stuff. So I can't really comment on it. I've seen others suggest it as a replacement for the ones I mentioned. (shield tricks etc..)

Another alternative is Deadly Reflex. But I've used only an early version so can't comment on it either. Very popular though. Maybe others could comment? There's a similar feel there though. Enemies can get massive hits on you too.

A new combat mod is "Unneccessairy violence" but the current release is still buggy. They're being worked out though.

hmm ok, ill look into the weapon atleast. Skilling up a walking wall of metal is vastly harder than my usual stuff lol. Still, it is fun to power swing that claymore and watch a heavily armored foe stagger back. My biggest problems atm, is being kited, and Ogres *shivers*. God i HATE ogres. I also made the misake of starting the MQ, so now I have to deal with the annoying gates ohwell.

No biggie, some unknown addon I installed is causing my Oblivion to crash upon start. Doesn't matter if I start a new game or a saved, so that pretty much kills my intrest in the game. I made a thread about it on troubleshooting but I have little hope for finding a cure. Unless I can find my shivering isle disk, several of my favorites won't work.
