Chaosmaker Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 Just wondering. I saw Dragon's a legend made real on animal planet wanted to see what you guy's thought on the subject.
Peregrine Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 Dragons as presented in most mythology/fantasy: absolutely not. Dragons, if you accept taking something far less impressive and turning it into a dragon through storytelling, possibly they exist.
Slaiv Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 Komodo dragons. That's about it.... In other words, what Peregrine said.

They appear in Aztec sroties, they appear in chinese stories. But how do you explain that the same creature is in the stories of two different cultures who had absoulutly no contact with each other? Something to think about. Not onlydid they appear in there stroies but as well as in the stories of European nations.
CLB1110 Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 I say there is a slim chance dragons were real. But until i've seen one I wont belive it.
Peregrine Posted March 21, 2005 Posted March 21, 2005 But how do you explain that the same creature is in the stories of two different cultures who had absoulutly no contact with each other? Easily. Both cultures created a mythology that involved a giant monster. The first creators of it looked at a lizard and used it as inspiration for their monster. Besides, the two dragons are not the same. Look at chinese dragons vs. european ones, they aren't the same thing like you'd expect if they were literal truth.
draighox Posted March 22, 2005 Posted March 22, 2005 It depends on what the term 'exist' means. If it means to exist on Earth, then no, dragons don't exist. But if 'exist' means to exist in general, not necessarily on Earth, maybe on some other planet, or even in someone's imagination, then yes, dragons exist. After all, you can't be sure the Earth isn't someone's imagination.
Malchik Posted March 22, 2005 Posted March 22, 2005 Since man was around at the time of the dinosaurs who knows what kind of tales may have entered folklore. Whatever form of communication they had surely it would have become distorted and exaggerated through the generations.
Peregrine Posted March 22, 2005 Posted March 22, 2005 Since man was around at the time of the dinosaurs who knows what kind of tales may have entered folklore. This is a joke, right?
Malchik Posted March 22, 2005 Posted March 22, 2005 Not dinosaurs sorry I meant the time of the super-sized mammals, Mammoths and the like. Sorry, early in the moring for one with a hangover!
