miediev
Hi, I've been a lurker here for a month or two and thought I'd step out of the shadows for a bit and see if this place is as cool as it looks. It's been a while since I've been involved in any online community, so I thought I'd share a little about myself so everyone who cares enough to read knows where I'm coming from A few years ago I was big into modding, mostly in the area of 3d modeling and texturing but I dabble in pretty much anything that can be changed in whatever game I happen to be fixated on at the time. It was fun, and I had aspirations (and the skills and connections) to turn it into a carreer. Then everything changed. You know the story; she had a pretty smile and innocent eyes, but underneath she was all the fun parts of evil and subversion. Like that I was drawn into the light (dark?) and saw how crazy the world could really be. I've learned a lot since then, and I'd like to share a few of those things with you in the order which I learned them myself. First; Crime really does pay. It pays fast and it pays big, but when it does it makes you a target. No matter how smart you think you are you will eventually get arrested, robbed, or shot. And once the good times are over and the smoke clears you'll wonder where all the money went, and if it was worth all the trouble. Second, and this was an eye opener for me; nothing is as certain as everyone wants you to believe. Everyone is making it up as they go along, and the people on top are only there because they could convince enough people that they should be. The only thing slowing you down is the limits in your imagination. Finally; like the title character in My Name is Earl, I'm karma's female dog. Do good things and good things happen, do bad things and bad things happen. It's infinitely more complex than that of course, but I've gone both ways on the scale and I can't escape it. I've come to firmly believe that if you stick to that simple rule you'll have a much better time of things. So now I'm back into modding and lurking community forums. I loved the original fallout, and fallout 2 only got better. Then there was fallout tactics, which besides the brotherhood of steel, two-headed brahmin and (furry?) deathclaws, didn't have much to do with fallout at all. I mean, they didn't even have dogmeat! How can you make a fallout game without dogmeat? I liked it anyway though, 'cause I can't escape my love for the horrors of a post-apocalyptic wasteland and non-anime power armor. I bought Fallout 3 for my xbox; and it's fun, but not quite what I wanted in a fallout game. So I spent $500 bucks and built a new computer so I could play the game how I want it. I give much respect to the mod community for this game. It's hasn't been out a year and there's already an incredibly diverse number of very smart and fun mods for this game. I've begun to dabble in tweaking existing mods to fit my needs, and I've got some ideas for things I want to do in the future, but I still have a ton to learn before I can stand on my own two feet. I try not to ask questions that have been answered before, but with the sheer volume of information required to mod this game I'm sure I'll find a few. I don't really have anything to show yet as far as completed mods, or partially completed mods... or mods I've started. I did start vault 74 from the GECK tutorial... but I've only completed the first part, and for some reason the overseers office doesn't render when I run it in-game. Level making was never my strength, navigating the GECK is far more awkward for me than Maya or 3ds max. One day though, I hope to become a contributing member of this community with a list of fancy sounding mods for people to enjoy. So that's my introdustion, in a long winded and kind of rambling way,.Thanks for your time, and I look forward to getting to know everybody here better. I am almoust like you, I do believe in karma and other things like that.I like Fallout to, but I'm all for oblivion and Morrwind. Fallout was a nice experience for me and I'll probably start playing it again in the near future. I hope you will make a lot of friends here and share your mods, if you'll make any with the comunity.
