ZANAXX
I have to agreee if you just bought the game play it through it a great game main quests or even the side quests like guilds etc. but texture mods and er.... naughty skins lol make the game fun without the changing of most guests :) just got a friend to buy it and. wanted to start modding after I told her you can mod this game like mad. but i strongly suggested she play it through before hand :P
bben46
100 hours on the main quest? What's your rush? Is it your goal to finish as fast as possible? You will miss a lot if you do. There is no reason to rush the MQ. If you get distracted by an interesting side quest, the MQ will just pause until you pick it back up. My first time through I discovered mods at about level 5. It took me over 300 hours because I kept getting distracted by new mods. Then after finishing the MQ I spent another 200 to 300 hours playing with mods. Doing all of the side quests, doing many mod quests, installing new mods that changed something in the game. improving the looks, changing the game parameters and whatever else I could find to try. Then started trying to mod by changing small things in the game. Then bigger mods. It's been nearly 3 years and I still play regular. I find something new nearly every time I play. I find something new nearly every time I play.No rush, at least that's the initial idea  . It's going to have to be "done when it's done" ( the Dukem Nukem Forever approach perhaps  ) due to Fallout 3 still going strong and all the ground and mod material to explore in Oblivion. Now the real battle for me isn't in Tamriel, its more like Tamriel vs. Post-Apocalyptia, and then those two vs. a couple of upcoming summer releases I'm anticipating. Fallout 3 has been the champ thus far (thanks to the Nexus talented) but I wonder how long that'll last with competition like Oblivion (also aided here) and others. Anyhow, probably not the place to inquire too much about mod recommendations but now I'm wondering about some minor tweaks for things like balancing or visuals, as others like Pushkatu mentioned starting with. Any other really quick recommendations that aren't all too major a change in gameplay? I'd rather have a quick idea going in than searching endlessly through the gold mine and forums, not focusing on Oblivion.
jaysus
well i think 100h is a reasonable amount of time for a first play through of oblivion... of course you can dwell there much longer if you go for all the quests, guilds and explorations but thats the reason id say get mods right away :) and thats also the sharp contrast to fallout, the quests in there take much less time to accomplish (apart from the usual 10minutes run through lifeless areas until you reach your destination crap) fallout on a first play through just sucks in maybe 50h if youre slow...and maybe 150h if you do all sidequests
orctor
Play the game a bit first before you starts modding. Then you have experience in the game and you will probably know what you are looking for.
